Robbo’s moment of judgement is overtaken by a shocking development. The search for Ava kicks into high gear. Is Ziggy’s sacrifice too dangerous for Maggie to accept?
Extended Summary
Justin runs up to John outside the surf club and asks if he’s seen Ava. John says Raffy was home alone when he left her but rings her to check. Brody comes up and says Ava isn’t on the beach, while Willow and Tori also come back from searching. John confirms Raffy hasn’t seen her either. Justin remembers he’s due in court but Tori tells him to forget about it and they decide to divide up the town. Meanwhile, at the Diner, Alf and Leah discuss Roo taking Martha home. Alf is glad there aren’t secrets between them any more but isn’t sure how much contact with Martha they’ll have. John comes in and asks if they’ve seen Ava. Ash and Dean overhear.
Ash goes round to see Justin, who thinks he’s there to have a go about Robbo. Ash however explains he just wants to help. He encourages Justin to get the police involved and offers to drive him. At the police station, they give Colby the details, with Justin saying he last checked on Ava about 10.00 or 10.30. Colby checks Ava couldn’t be with another family member and Justin says they’re all as worried as him. Colby asks about her mother and Justin says Nina’s overseas, admitting that she doesn’t know Ava’s missing and doesn’t trust him. He can’t think of anyone with a grudge against the family.
Tori meets Kurt at the Diner and tells him Justin can’t give evidence. Kurt doesn’t think it makes any difference because Robbo hasn’t shown up. Tori asks him to stall or maybe get him excused for the day on mental health grounds but Kurt thinks if they don’t do something soon then a warrant will be issued for his arrest. However, Kurt then runs into Robbo outside, with Robbo explaining he just went for a walk. Kurt wants to go over strategies but Robbo simply says he wants to testify, thinking the jury need to hear his story from him.
Ben is on the phone to the hospital while Ziggy is lying on the sofa, obviously ill. She has stomach pains and is vomiting, with Coco trying to keep on top of it with a bucket and disinfectant spray. Maggie is convinced it’s a side effect of the stem cell stimulation. Ben says the hospital agreed it’s possible but think it’s more likely it’s a virus, so Maggie should stay away. Coco offers to call Brody but Ziggy says she doesn’t want him to see her like this. Later, Maggie gets Ziggy a wet cloth for her forehead and Ben and Coco shoo her away. Maggie is still convinced there’s a problem and tells Ben they need to get Ziggy to hospital.
Tori, Kurt and Robbo arrive at the court house and are again approached by Samantha. They initially ignore her, but when she keeps calling Robbo “Mr Reid” he snaps at her to print whatever she likes but not call him that. Samantha rings someone and tells them that something changed overnight and to get ready. In court, Kurt questions Robbo who says he doesn’t remember being Beckett Reid. Barnesdale objects but Kurt says they have witnesses and medical evidence to back it up and the magistrate lets it go. Kurt rests after a few more questions about how Robbo doesn’t consider himself to be Beckett Reid. However, Robbo then addresses the jury without questions (with Samantha having joined Tori in the gallery), saying they can call him what they want but he loved Kat and tried to protect her and knows he lost a family before that. He tells them to just make a decision because he wants it to be over.
Justin and Ash are walking near the beach when Justin sees Dean and realises that he’s someone who has a grudge against him. He dashes over and demands to know what he’s done to Ava. Dean insists he doesn’t know anything and Ash tries to stop Justin attacking him. Willow and Colby both turn up and get involved in trying to keep them apart. Colby eventually says they’ll settle it at the station. Soon after, all parties are in the interview room. Justin continues to violently accuses Dean. Colby asks Dean if it’s true and Dean snaps that he’s already answered that. Colby threatens to put them both in cells and Justin manages to calm down. Dean offers to get the River Boys to look out for Ava.
Kurt, Tori and Robbo sit in Salt. Kurt isn’t sure what’s going to happen, since he’s never seen anyone do what Robbo did, and is surprised the prosecution didn’t cross-examine. Robbo thanks him for his help. Kurt predicts it could take the jury a week to go through the evidence. Meanwhile, Brody joins the Astonis in hospital and assures Ziggy he doesn’t care how bad she looks. Coco says he was meant to tell her she looks beautiful. Ziggy thinks Coco called him but Maggie says she did. The doctor comes in and tells them Ziggy has gastro and it’s nothing to do with the injections. They’re going to keep her in overnight, then they can harvest the stem cells. Brody and Coco insist they can look after Ziggy and Ben takes Maggie away. However, Maggie tells him that Ziggy’s ill and she’s not going to go ahead with the transplant.
Justin is sitting with Willow in the police station reception and reflects on the fact Ava hasn’t eaten all day. Colby shows him some Missing flyers that have been drawn up for Ava and asks him to check the details. Dean asks for some for his search party and Justin hands them over without a word. Colby tells Justin to go home since someone needs to be there. Meanwhile, Ben is trying to talk to Maggie at the house. Maggie refuses to let Ziggy suffer when she’s going to die anyway. Ben asks what he thinks it’s going to be like for Ziggy seeing her on her deathbed and says they’re all scared of her dying. He begs her to accept help for the sake of the whole family.
Justin is at home with Willow and rings Tori to give her an update. Willow does her best to reassure him that Ava will be okay. At that moment, Ava is in a previously unseen house with an older woman, Hazel, who brings her a meal. Hazel claims she’s spoken to Justin and he has to work late so Ava will have to stay the night with her. Ava seems happy with the arrangement. As Hazel leaves the room, she pauses a moment just outside the door, spying on Ava.
Tori tells Robbo she needs to go and look for Ava but they are interrupted by Kurt: The jury’s in. The three of them return to court where the judge asks the foreperson for the verdict on the first count (the murder of Novak). However, before she can answer, Samantha enters with a group of uniformed officers and hands the judge a warrant, saying federal police have authority to take Robbo into custody. The judge is outraged but accepts it. Kurt asks to see the warrant and he and Tori follow as Robbo is dragged outside into a vehicle. Tori wants to know what’s going on but Samantha tells her to forget she ever knew Robbo.
