Can Tori convince Ash to help Robbo? Willow puts Justin’s daughter in danger. Roo reconciles with Martha.

Extended Summary

Tori arrives outside Ash’s hospital room and hears him and Justin chatting. Justin jokes that Ash damaged the car and tells him to ask someone for help next time. He notes Ash seems happier and Ash tells him about Tori’s visit, saying it went well. Tori tries to make herself scarce but isn’t quick enough to stop Justin seeing her when he emerges. She declines his suggestion to go in, saying she has things to do. She goes to Robbo’s flat and tells him she can’t ask Ash to testify. Robbo understands and says they’ll find something else.

Roo is staring at the family ring as Alf comes home. He asks if Roo got any answers and Roo admits she didn’t. Alf suggests it’s early days but Roo says Martha took off as soon as she asked one question. Alf goes to Martha’s motel room and knocks on the door, saying it’s about time they had a yarn. Martha ignores him, muttering a mantra to herself about how it’s a bad day and just one moment.

Justin, Willow and Ava are playing a game of Go Fish at the Morgan house. The girls are successfully double-teaming Justin who throws in the towel and tells Ava to go to bed. He and Willow note it’s good to spend time together and Willow has been focused on Dean lately. As they’re getting cosy, Ava calls out to say there’s no toothpaste. Willow asks about staying the night and looks slightly disappointed when Justin says he doesn’t want to confuse Ava. She calls out a goodbye to the girl as she leaves. Next morning, Justin, Tori and Ava are taking Buddy for a walk near the beach. Justin asks Tori why she didn’t go in to see Ash and she tells him about Kurt’s idea to get Ash to testify. Both of them think it’s a bad idea.

Tori and Robbo meet with Kurt at the flat and tell him their feelings. They say they don’t know what Ash would say anyway but Kurt says he can deal with hostile witnesses. Robbo suggests they just go with the amnesia but Kurt points to the CCTV footage and says they need to tell the jury what was said. His phone goes and while he’s answering it Tori leaves. Kurt tells Robbo that, despite there being no body, the police are adding Dylan’s murder to the charges. They retire to Salt where Kurt explains the CCTV footage and blood place Robbo and Dylan on the boat. Since Robbo doesn’t remember it, they might plead self-defence or lump it in with the Beckett Reid charges, but he still needs Ash and doesn’t like having his hands tied. Robbo still doesn’t want to ask Tori to do it so Kurt decides to subpoena him.

Willow joins Justin and Ava on their Buddy walking. Ava wants an ice cream so Willow gives her some money. She starts to run off but Justin stops her, telling a confused Willow there’s been a couple of mishaps, and the three of them head off together. Meanwhile, Alf is watching Roo pace as she worries whether Martha will come or not. Alf says if she doesn’t then it’s not Roo’s fault. Martha turns up and, seeing Alf, suggests she and Roo go for a walk.

Robbo finds Tori near the Diner and tells her about Kurt’s plan with the subpoena. Tori understands Robbo needs every chance but asks him to hold Kurt off so she can talk to Ash first and prepare him. Meanwhile, Roo and Martha are walking on the beach. Martha says she has a mental illness: Borderline personality disorder. She says she couldn’t connect with Roo. Roo thinks they got on fine but Martha says she put on a good show and had to get away. She says by the time she was diagnosed and treated too much time had passed for her to come back and she thought Roo would have a good life without her. She says seeing the woman Roo has become she knows she was right. Roo replies that she was wrong and walks away.

Tori goes to see Ash, who is hoping that once the dialysis has done its work he can go and see Luc and asks Tori to come with him. Tori says they can’t until after Robbo’s trial. Ash says he’s moving on from that but Tori explains Robbo’s lawyer wants him to testify. Ash is furious and thinks Tori’s behaviour recently has been a way of ingratiating herself. Tori rings Justin, who is outside the surf club with Willow and Ava eating ice cream. He says he’ll come and join her and suggests calling Brody to mind Ava. Willow says she can handle it and, with Ava fine with the idea, Justin agrees.

Justin joins Tori outside Ash’s room; Murray is in there with him, serving the subpoena. Murray apologetically explains that if Ash doesn’t turn up to court an arrest warrant would be issued, before leaving Ash and Justin alone. Ash complains that he was trying to move on. Justin says he just needs to answer a couple of questions but Ash says he’ll go to jail before he helps Robbo. Meanwhile, Willow and Ava arrive back at the Morgan house with Buddy ignoring instructions not to shake himself off inside. Willow says she needs to take him out the back and clean him and wants Ava to come too but Ava complains that she’s had no lunch. Willow agrees she can make herself a snack. After she’s gone, Ava picks up one of Brody’s large knives.

Back at the house, Roo tells Martha she gave Alf a hard time when she was a teenager, which Martha wasn’t around for. She had a child at sixteen that she named after her, who she’s hardly seen and doesn’t know where she is. She says she was grieving and needed Martha, and the fantasy life Martha pictured wasn’t real. Martha says she can help now and they hug. Alf comes in unnoticed and sees them. Meanwhile, Justin arrives home to find Ava chopping up vegetables with the knife and hastily takes it off her. Willow comes in and says Ava said she knew what she was doing but Justin tells her to leave. He asks Ava if she’s okay. Ava doesn’t seem to understand what the fuss is about.

Roo finds Alf at the Diner and says she promised to get Martha some of Leah’s moussaka. She invites him to join them but Alf would rather go fishing. He says he’s glad Roo and Martha are getting on but Martha’s been dead to him for over thirty years and still is.
