Extended Summary
Novak places a beer can on the table in front of Robbo, having got one for himself. He calls him Beckett and Robbo knocks the can flying, saying Beckett is dead. He tells Novak to leave town, since Kat isn’t testifying, but Novak says he has to stick around in case she changes her mind. He adds that it’s Robbo’s fault for stuffing up the job and confirms he was on the boat because he was on his way to kill Kat. He suggests he do the job. Meanwhile, Brody arrives home to find Mason lounging on the sofa. Justin tries to get Mason to come to the surf club for a game of pool, since he hasn’t moved from the sofa all week. He eventually drops the idea but says Mason is coming to the garage with him in the morning. Brody laughs and Mason is incredulous at the idea of fixing cars but Justin says it’s just one day and if he can relocate a shoulder he can manage an oil change.
Robbo and Novak exit the building. Novak explains it was the extraction point: Robbo was supposed to do the job and go to the safe house (the house where the police found him) where the car would lead him there. However, when they didn’t hear from him, Novak came looking. He says Beckett used to be the best in the business but now he’s nothing. This provokes a fight which ends with Robbo getting Novak in a choke hold. He says to tell his boss that Robbo will make sure Kat doesn’t testify but he has to leave town. Novak agrees but isn’t sure he’ll go for it. Robbo heads back to the flat, taking the case from the car with him. He is met by Kat, who comments on his long absence. She continues to worry about Novak and Robbo tries to reassure her that he’s gone. He says he has to take a shower before going to bed but instead opens the case.
Next morning, Maggie and Coco are both trying to mollify Diana over breakfast. Ziggy comes through and Coco says they’re going to try and get Ben to apologise. Ziggy, who’s on her way to work, is glad to be out of the firing line. She passes Ben, whose offer of a coffee for Diana is rejected. He starts to apologise but Diana’s intransigent response leads him to complain again about her hijacking the anniversary and Diana walks out with nothing resolved. At the garage, Justin shows Mason a classic car belonging to a little old lady who is complaining about a rattle. He suggests various solutions, comparing it to checking over a patient. Ziggy comes home and gushes over the car, saying a friend’s dad had one. Mason is happy for her to take over but Justin tells her to deal with the invoices.
Maggie finds Ben by the beach. He says he’s been keeping the peace for twenty years and just snapped, adding that he hoped she’d be on his side. Maggie says she is but Diana’s still her mother and has been good to them. Ben says he’ll go back to normal but Maggie suggests he try and have a normal relationship with Diana instead. Back at the farm, Diana is teaching Coco to knit but Coco makes herself scarce when Ben comes home. Ben says he was out of line but wants Diana to admit she was wrong about him: She didn’t think the marriage would last six months and all her family thought he’d ruin Maggie’s life. Diana acknowledges that was wrong. Ben says no-one would be good enough for Maggie but they both want to make her happy: He has an idea for an anniversary surprise but needs Maggie’s help.
Robbo is setting up the surveillance cameras from the case around the flat. He is able to view the picture from them on a phone. He hears Kat chatting to Baxter outside and quickly clears everything away. When Kat comes in, he claims he was changing the batteries in the smoke alarm and that he feels protective. Back at the garage, Mason is looking under the car. Justin helps him notice the exhaust is loose and leaves him to tighten it. Mason admits to Ziggy that he has no idea how so she does it for him. He checks her phone for her: She has a text from Coco saying there’s a family emergency and she’s needed on the beach. Ziggy asks Mason to cover for her and move some papers around.
Ziggy and Coco are waiting with Ben on the beach, both holding bouquets; Ziggy is somewhat bemused, pointing out Ben and Maggie are already married, and Coco says it’s the wedding they wanted to have twenty years ago. Diana leads a blindfolded Maggie to them and Ben wishes her happy anniversary, recalling the beach wedding they planned. He says he loves her even more than he did twenty years ago and they’ve made a family together. He acknowledges Diana’s help and tells Maggie he’ll never let her down. Maggie responds that he was the wild card meant to ruin her life but instead he can still surprise her after twenty years. Ben comments on her upstaging him with no preparation before giving her the simple engagement ring he meant to give her twenty years ago. They kiss: Coco and Ziggy applaud and even Diana manages a half-smile.
Ziggy rushes back to the garage but to her confusion Justin simply compliments her on finishing the paperwork and also compliments Mason on fixing the car. He leaves the pair alone again as they comment on helping each other out. Ziggy insists on taking the car for a test drive…and reverses into some shelves. Meanwhile, Robbo is encouraging Kat to take it easy. Kat is still worried about Novak and Robbo promises he won’t let anything happen to her. They kiss, observed by the cameras.
Ziggy attempts to mollify Mason, saying there isn’t even a dent. The bumper promptly falls off. Ziggy says it can be put back on easily but then they find a bag full of money inside it. Ziggy comments that they’ve found the rattle.
