Roo’s secret testing of Raffy forces Maggie into a corner. Coco’s eating disorder is validated. Justin delivers Scarlett an ultimatum.

Extended Summary

VJ and Justin run into each other near the beach and have a brief discussion about how Brody and the Astonis are handling things after recent events. They part company and Justin sees Scarlett nearby. She initially ignores his attempts to talk to her but eventually asks how Brody is. Justin suggests they go and see him. Scarlett tells him she’s trying to keep her distance from him. At the farm house, Maggie is on the phone to Ben, who is in the city with Ziggy. Coco has just polished off her breakfast and wants to go for a run to burn it off. However, Maggie is supervising CPR training for the Year 11s at the surf club and, after what happened to Ziggy, doesn’t want to leave Coco alone. Coco eventually agrees to go with her but needs to go to the toilet first…

John, Marilyn and Roo are all worried about Raffy running off. John is confused that she wasn’t excited about the idea of moving up a year while Marilyn thinks they put too much pressure on her. Roo says that they need to track her down and explain that it was only an idea. At the Diner, Alf and Justin reflect on how things seem to be settling down at last. Scarlett comes in and Alf greets her; she says she wanted to get an early start but is reluctant to talk to Justin. Justin asks Alf if Scarlett talks about him and Alf retorts that Colleen Smart left town a long time ago and he isn’t her replacement. John and Marilyn come in looking for Raffy and admit that she ran off after an argument. Scarlett volunteers to help John look for her and Justin quickly does too. Alf muses on his earlier comments about things quietening down.

Maggie and Coco turn up at the surf club; Coco regrets changing out of her exercise gear when she realises she could have gone in the gym. Maggie observes that she could try surfing. VJ appears and asks Coco how Ziggy is; Coco says she and Ben have gone to the city to finalise the sale of their old house. VJ offers to teach her to surf, saying she could borrow some swimmers from lost property. Maggie overhears and is fine with the idea so Coco agrees. Roo comes in looking for Raffy and looks awkward when Maggie asks what’s going on. Later, VJ tries to get Coco to balance on the board but she is unable to do anything other than stand upright or crouch down low. He eventually decides she should just go out on the water and jokes about there being sharks out there. He tries to get her to take off the rashie she is wearing on over her swimmers but she refuses.

John has explained the situation to Justin and Scarlett. Justin asks why the Morgans weren’t consulted before John and the others spoke to Raffy and adds that Tori and Mason were the brainy ones at school but he was the popular one. Scarlett is sceptical but suggests Raffy simply over-reacted. John leaves them alone and Justin tries to convince Scarlett that they should be friends again. Scarlett reminds him that he slept with someone else to put distance between them and walks away. Back at Salt, Roo has filled in Maggie. Maggie is bewildered that Roo was “experimenting on” Raffy and says she should have come to her first. Roo admits she handled it wrong and Maggie cuts her short, saying they’ll discuss it at school next week.

VJ and Coco come back from their surf and VJ compliments Coco on her performance. Coco says she must have got it from Ben. VJ says Ben isn’t that good and Coco jokes that he’s training her up to beat her father. VJ convinces her to take the wet rashie off, then jokes that she should put it back on because the swimmers are ugly, which kills the mood somewhat. VJ tries to get Coco to go to the Diner with him but Coco says she had a huge breakfast. VJ is reluctant to leave her alone since Maggie trusted him to look after her but Coco says she’ll see him later. She goes to Salt and orders a huge bowl of chips but is immediately found by VJ, who queries her saying earlier she’s not hungry. He wonders why she’s acting weird but Coco denies it and says she has to meet Maggie. She rushes downstairs and dashes into the toilet.

Scarlett finds Raffy sitting in the caravan park and wryly notes that she’s meant to be missing. Raffy says she’s sick of people pushing her around and doesn’t want to be labelled a big nerd. Scarlett says she was accelerated at school and it didn’t go too badly. Raffy is worried about failing and being the youngest. Scarlett says she saw it as having an extra year. Justin and John show up. Justin tells Raffy she should have come to him. Raffy is surprised to realise it’s not a done deal and John admits he got carried away. While they’re talking, Scarlett silently walks off. John and Justin take Raffy up to the house where they meet Roo, Marilyn and Maggie. Raffy apologises to Roo. Maggie cuts in, saying it was just an idea but a good one. Justin adds that he and Tori have the final say and won’t force her to do anything. Raffy is receptive to the idea and Maggie says they’ll talk about it when they’re back at school.

John, Marilyn and Raffy go to the surf club, with John still apologetic over his handling of things. Coco emerges from the toilet and is invited to join them for gelato, which John is volunteered to pay for. Raffy tells her they might be in the same class soon but isn’t sure about going up a year when she won’t really know anyone. Coco says she’ll know her. VJ comes downstairs and wonders why Coco ran off when she still hasn’t met Maggie, with Raffy expressing mock-outrage at Coco getting large chips without her. Coco tells them to leave her alone and storms off. Outside the Diner, Roo accosts Maggie. Maggie still wants to leave it til they’re at school but Roo wants to clear the air. Maggie knows she meant well but says teaching might not be for her.

Back at the farm house, Coco tells Maggie she’s not hungry which concerns Maggie somewhat. VJ comes to the door and tells Coco that he thought they were just messing around but he embarrassed her and he’s sorry. Coco says she knows he thought she looked fat in her swimmers but VJ says she looked great and could eat as many chips as she wanted. Coco smiles and looks at her reflection after he’s gone. Maggie comments on her good mood. Coco claims he was just telling her about Raffy but now agrees to dinner as long as it’s healthy. At Salt, Justin tracks Scarlett down and thanks her for helping Raffy, adding that he’s been dumb recently. He says he can’t stop thinking about her and even though he’s not sure if he’s ready he doesn’t want them to miss their chance.
