Extended Summary
In the Morgan House, Scarlett stumbles out, looking a little under the weather. Justin asks if she wants to stay for breakfast, but she refuses, wanting to get out of the house. Justin points out that Scarlett’s clothes are all over the living room. She grabs them, and heads out of the house. Heading home, Scarlett runs into Roo at the Caravan Park, who tells her that she’s doing a stride of pride, not a walk of shame. Scarlett assures her that she made a terrible mistake. Roo reminds her that everyone makes mistakes, and to that, Scarlett lets slip that she wishes she hadn’t made that mistake with Justin, before heading off.
Roo heads into the Diner and asks Leah for a coffee, before sitting down with Alf at a table. Alf inquires about Scarlett and Roo tells him that she did see her – she looked like she had has a big night. Alf isn’t happy, declaring that Justin was meant to look after her. Roo playfully retorts that he did. Alf can’t believe his ears, but Roo reminds him that Scarlett is a big girl. Then, VJ walks into the Diner all dressed up, and tells Leah that he has a date with a French tutor. Leah gushes over her son, and VJ tells her that it feels weird, so soon after Billie. Leah tells him that he can move lunch to the Diner, but he politely declines and makes off.
In the Farm House, Coco is practising her French in her bedroom as Ben walks past and overhears her. He asks her what she’s doing and why she’s dressed up. She dismisses and asks if he can take her to Raffy’s. At the Palmer House, Raffy compliments Coco on how she looks, while Ben questions John and Marilyn about what the girls are doing. They assure him that nothing amiss is going on and he tells Coco to behave herself. As the girls talk, John overhears ‘VJ’ and ‘date’, and quizzes Marilyn, but she tells him that it’s probably perfectly innocent. Coco tells Raffy that she’s going to tell VJ the truth straight away – he’s too nice to lie to.
At Salt, Coco meets VJ and he tells her that she looks nice. She informs him that this is her first date, which shocks VJ. As Coco goes to tell him the truth, he tells her that he’s nervous as well, and tells her to take a seat – he’s ordered them some champagne to make her feel at home. VJ tells the waitress that he’ll pour it, and as he goes to, Coco points out that her glass is dirty and that she doesn’t need any, but VJ declines – he’ll get her a new glass. As he moves to the bar, Coco calls Raffy, asking for advice because she’s underage. However, her problems become worse when Ben walks in and begins butting heads with VJ. Coco quickly hides under the table as Ben walks out with his takeaway. VJ returns and asks what she was doing. She covers, saying she dropped her phone, as VJ pours champagne.
As Alf heads out of the Diner, he crosses Justin and tells him that he expected more of him – he asked him to look after her, not take advantage of her. Justin’s confused and pushes, asking what Alf thinks it is that he did. When Alf explains that Roo saw Scarlett coming home, Justin explains that he and Scarlett never slept together. After realising that she was weird that morning, Justin heads off to find her. At the Caravan Park, Scarlett comically tries to avoid Justin, but he catches her, assuring her that nothing happened between them. She rebuts, stating she was naked, but he tells her that she had a shower and there’s nothing to worry about. Down at the Beach, Scarlett apologises and opens up – she’s still married to Max’s father and he became drinking heavily after their son died. She couldn’t bear to be around him and she’s ran – and has been running ever since. Anything that she had with Caleb, died with Max.
In the Diner, Marilyn tells Leah how nice it is to have a girl around the house, and John pipes up, informing Leah that Raffy and Coco were talking about VJ. After some discussion, Leah realises that VJ is on a date with Coco and that she has been lying about being a French tutor, before storming out. At Salt, Leah rushes in during a toast between VJ and Coco and removes the champagne from in front of Coco – she shouldn’t be drinking that, she’s 16. After VJ asks Coco, she apologises and rushes off. VJ chases after her and asks why she lied – because she’s a boring geek, but VJ made her feel special. Coco apologises again and VJ tells her that a friendship can’t be based on lies and she walks off.
Elsewhere, Raffy is confronted by John and Marilyn over Coco’s whereabouts. Raffy lies to cover, but she is caught out as Marilyn explains that they know about Coco’s date with VJ. Marilyn and John iterate the fact that it’s not fair to VJ, especially so soon after Billie. Raffy kicks herself, but Marilyn tells her that everyone makes mistakes – it’s how they deal with them that counts. Back at the Farm House, Ben overhears Coco crying in her bedroom. She tells her father that she’s such an idiot. He attempts to reassure her, and offers to get her a bowl of ice cream. Then, Raffy turns up to apologise to Coco, but Coco explains that VJ hates her, and shuts the door in her face. Raffy, saddened, heads back to John and Marilyn’s and they tell her that everything will be alright. After Raffy heads to her room, John and Marilyn talk about how nice it’s been having a kid around the house, and with that, John suggests the idea of fostering another child.
Later, Justin explains to Alf that Scarlett’s in a hole and to get her out, he’s going to need Alf’s help. After getting Scarlett, Alf and Justin take her to the Pier and tell her that they’ve organised a fishing expedition to cheer her up. She’s elated, and after a snide remark from Justin after his last trip out with Alf (and Alf had a heart attack), they head off. As they head out, Scarlett thanks Justin once again. As Alf points out that they’re reaching the island that they’ll be fishing on, Justin assures her that everything will be fine. She responds that she hopes so – but little do they know that on the island, a mysterious stranger is watching them approach…
