Extended Summary

Outside the bait shop, Alf and Justin discuss Scarlett, with Justin saying she should be back in a week or two. Alf notices the wood is rotting on the pier and says he’ll have to call the owner again. They see Tori hurry out of the Diner flat with Ash calling after her. Tori bumps into Leah who takes her into the Diner and puts a plaster on her finger. Tori tells Leah that she think she and Ash had a moment and Leah tries to convince her otherwise. Ash comes in with Tori’s top. He and Tori exchange awkward chit-chat before he takes Luc back upstairs; Leah changes her mind and says maybe he does like her. Kat comes in and recognises Ash’s T-shirt that Tori is wearing. Tori explains about the wine. Kat asks Tori to take a walk with her and they arrange to meet up after they’ve both changed.

Alf runs into Ben and Maggie outside their caravan. He chats to them about the water tank while they wonder where the girls are. They note they’ll all have to go home soon but don’t seem to want to. Ben decides to go down the beach for a surf, theorising that that’s probably where the girls are anyway. He invites Maggie along but she says she has something else to do. Alf goes back to the house where he gets a phone call back from the pier owner which doesn’t go the way he hoped. He tells Roo that the pier is being sold, including the bait shop, the Diner and the flat above it.

Justin and Ben go for a surf on the beach. Ben notes that he’ll miss the waves when he goes back to Sydney. Justin says he goes there sometimes to see Ava so he might meet up with Ben. Ash approaches, having left Luc with VJ, and asks Justin if he’s seen Tori. Justin says not since he saw her with Ash. Ash says he’ll call her. Up on the headland, Kat tells Tori about her night out with Leah and Marilyn and how she ended up upset about Ash. She says she’s relieved it’s over in a way but misses him. Tori suggests once the dust has settled they can be friends again. Tori’s phone rings: It’s Ash but she ignores it. Kat says she’s glad she can talk to her.

Maggie is looking around the farm house and heads into the bedroom. Roo turns up and calls out. Maggie tries to open the window but Roo hears her grunting with exertion. Maggie hides under the bed…only to jump onto it screaming when she finds a snake under there. Roo enters and asks who she is. Later, Roo tells Maggie she can come down: She’s put the snake back in the bush. Maggie says she just wanted one last look round. Roo realises she’s one of the Astonis and explains she’s Alf’s daughter. She wonders if Maggie’s interested in the farm house as a holiday home but Maggie says they couldn’t afford it and will have to leave soon. Roo invites her for a coffee.

Ash comes home to find Kat packing up her things. He tells her it’s all right for her to be there. They sit down for a chat and conclude that they don’t truly want to break up but just can’t see any other way. They hug. Downstairs, Alf, Irene and Leah witness Roo and Maggie arriving, chatting in a friendly manner about Roo’s plans to become a teacher, and Leah grumpily asks if everyone but her loves Maggie. Roo has to cut short their chat since Terry from the Department has arrived early to meet her. Maggie goes to order a coffee from Leah, who is somewhat frosty towards her. She sits near Roo and Terry as Terry says Summer Bay High doesn’t have a principal to approve her teaching prac at the moment, since they’re having trouble finding someone to replace Zac.

Justin and Ben are at Salt together with Justin explaining that he owns it. He goes over to talk to Tori, saying Ash was trying to call her. After a bit of pushing, Tori admits she likes him but never thought anything would come of it. She decides to go and see him. At the Diner flat, Ash apologises to her, saying he’d never try and crack on to her and doesn’t see her that way. Tori pretends to agree. Ash then asks her to babysit Luc that evening. To add insult to injury, it turns out to be so he can have dinner with Kat. Kat tells Tori that she and Ash had a moment earlier. Tori privately asks Ash if he and Kat are back together. Ash says they’re just talking.

Ash and Kat pass Alf and Ben, who are looking at the For Sale sign by the pier. Alf gives Ben the lowdown on all the businesses it covers, adding that they’ve all got leases but he’s worried about loopholes. He hopes that a local who’ll actually want to be involved will buy it. At Salt, Kat tells Ash she still has feelings for him but things moved too fast with her moving in with him, Luc and Patrick. She suggests they keep seeing each other with her staying at the caravan. Justin comes in and sees them holding hands. He asks Ash if he spoke to Tori and Ash explains she’s babysitting. Justin goes to see her at the flat and commiserates; Tori thinks she could never compete with Kat.

At the Diner, Maggie is finishing a positive meeting with Terry. Ben comes in and tells her about the pier, suggesting they could redevelop it. Maggie drags him to the farm house and explains she knows where the spare key is from her other visits. She says she wants them to buy it to live in: She’s applied to be principal and Ben can get an income from the pier and do maintenance work himself. At the same time, Alf is suggesting to Leah that they buy it themselves: He has equity from the seaplane business and Leah has money from the sale of the land from the old house. Ben and Maggie muse that the girls will have to agree but things aren’t working in the city. Leah notes they’ll have to talk to Irene but thinks she’ll agree. Both groups decide to go for it…
