Extended Summary

Ash and Patrick wander through the caravan park and Ash encourages Patrick to go with him when he picks up Luc later. He still isn’t happy about Luc being handed around. They see Zac coming out of a caravan and wonder why he stayed there instead of the house. In her bedroom, Leah looks at her wedding photo then turns into over. VJ comes in and she apologises for not speaking to him the previous day. She tells him she told Zac to move out and tries to suggest it could be temporary but VJ doesn’t seem bothered.

John finishes a phone call with Morag, telling Marilyn there was nothing new. He isn’t happy that Marilyn has to go into work since he was hoping to spend the last day before the trial together. Marilyn doesn’t want to view the day as significant, but when she sees how disappointed John is she suggests he come to work with her. Later, Justin and Tori rock up at the Diner, with Justin checking for messages from Phoebe. He wishes John luck, then checks it’s okay to mention the trial. Zac is sitting alone and Roo joins him. He tells her Leah kicked him out. Marilyn overhears and wonders why. Roo says she’ll explain later. Zac asks Roo to check on Leah and John suggests Marilyn go too, so she goes to arrange cover. He sits down with Zac and asks what’s wrong.

VJ shows Leah photos of Luc taken while she was away. He asks when they’re going to get her back and Leah says soon. VJ is annoyed when she says Zac is probably staying in a caravan, thinking he should have gone further and sooner. Roo and Marilyn turn up and usher VJ out while they fuss over Leah. Meanwhile, Irene is handing Luc over to Ash and Patrick. She tells them that Luc was sick earlier but says it’s just reflex and she doesn’t need a doctor. Ash wonders when she’s going back to VJ and tells her about Zac staying in a caravan. Irene pleads ignorance.

Ash shows Luc the sea from the headland and she responds by throwing up over him. He tries to hand her to Patrick who refuses to take her. Tori appears and steps in, noting that Luc seems dry and hot. Ash reports that she hasn’t been feeding or had any wet nappies so Tori decides to take her into hospital just to be on the safe side. There, she reports that Luc has a temperature and fever. It’s probably just a bug but she’s also dehydrated, so Tori gives her paracetamol and puts her on a drip to get her fluids up.

John and Zac are sat outside the latter’s caravan. Zac reflects on how you think there are things you’d never do and then you do them. John agrees one stupid mistake can wreck things but encourages him to try and move forward. Back at the hospital, Tori says Luc’s temperature is back to normal so she can leave once the paperwork’s done. Patrick tries to convince Ash there’s no harm done but Ash is annoyed that Irene said it was nothing. They head back to the caravan park where Ash remains angry. He says he’s going to put Luc down but has to prompt Patrick to say goodbye and even then he simply waves.

Leah tells Irene, Marilyn and Roo that she always thought she’d walk away if someone cheated but can’t make her mind up. Roo suggests things will become clearer. VJ listens from the porch as Leah tearfully says she’s angry but can see that Zac was grieving. VJ gets annoyed and ignores everyone’s calls as he storms off. Outside the caravan, Zac thanks John for listening and John jokes about sending him an invoice. VJ sees them laughing. Ash comes out of his caravan to see VJ yell at Zac and punch him. John escorts him away. Up at the house, Leah wonders if she should have gone after VJ but Irene thinks he just needs to let off steam. John brings VJ in and explains what happened: No-one is happy but VJ is unrepentant and, when Roo tries to say it’s complicated, says Zac is just scum. Irene says she has to go get Luc from Ash and Leah asks her to keep her until things are less crazy.

Irene lets Ash and Luc into the beach house, apologising for being late. Ash tells her about Luc’s hospital visit and Irene is sympathetic. However, Ash thinks she got it wrong. Irene protests that Luc didn’t have a fever earlier but Ash asks if she looked after her own children like him and thinks Luc should stay with him. He also has little respect for VJ’s opinion after what he saw. Irene insists Luc needs to be in her own cot. Round the back of the caravan park house, Leah brings Zac a cloth for his wound. He says he’s sorry but Leah just walks away.

Tori meets Justin at the Diner and they discuss Nate, with Tori worried that him losing his job will come between them. Patrick approaches Ash and checks Luc is back with Irene. Ash tells him about VJ punching Zac and how it sounded like he’s cheated on Leah. Patrick tries to calm him but Ash says Luc needs a home and he’s done talking. Meanwhile, at the Palmer house, John and Marilyn ruminate on Zac and Leah’s problems. Marilyn is sorry that they spent the day helping friends instead of being with each other. John says it won’t be their last day.

VJ is at the beach house where he has just put Luc down. He thanks Irene for looking after her and agrees the break is doing him good. Ash then turns up, having heard from Leah that VJ would be there. He tells them that today was the last straw: He’s filed with the family court for custody.
