Hunter inadvertently gets between Mason and Olivia. Justin fears he will never see his daughter again. Tori takes control of her date with Riley. Is the serial arsonist about to strike again?
Extended Summary
Hunter reflects on his moment with Olivia, calm despite the inner turmoil she always seems to stir up in him. Olivia herself has also been thrown by the moment, covering when Mason swings by. She deliberately does not tell him about Hunter helping out. Mason is sweet and thoughtful, which only makes her feel guiltier. At the hospital, Riley encourages Mason to support his girlfriend – he helps out a flagging Olivia at the Diner. Alf mentions the top notch toastie Hunter made for him yesterday and Mason realises Olivia lied by omission. Mason is wary, though she works hard to reassure him it was nothing. Mason approaches Hunter, eventually asking him outright if he is trying to win Olivia back? Hunter is able to deny it. Hunter finds Olivia, admitting his confusion – what was that between them yesterday? She flatly denies it was anything. Frustrated by her denials, he doesn’t think they should be friends anymore – something else will always come up between them if they don’t move on properly. She is left deflated, hurt by the thought of Hunter not being in her life anymore.
Justin leaves umpteenth messages for Nina, who is not returning his calls. Phoebe encourages him to hang in there. She’s left with an unfavourable impression of Nina. Phoebe is surprised when Tori sticks up for Nina, claiming she isn’t an unreasonable person. A troubled Justin informs Phoebe that Nina has changed her number to avoid his calls – she clearly wants him out of Ava’s life for good. Phoebe suggests sending an email to lay out his case. Justin disagrees, feeling like he’s wasted enough time already. He heads off to find Kat and ask her about his rights. Phoebe makes a snap decision to go behind his back and contacts Nina herself, via Facecloud. Will it backfire on her?
Riley presses Tori to finally go on their date. She tentatively agrees, though admits to Mason she is losing her nerve. He encourages her to go for it. She makes it clear Justin cannot know. Tori fears ‘drinks’ might send the wrong signal and decides to take control of the date by turning it into a picnic instead. Raffy insists upon enlisting Phoebe’s help to find the right outfit. After some missteps, Evelyn offers the perfect dress. Brody helps out with the picnic food. Riley and Tori are nervous as the date begins but soon relax. They reminisce over fun old times. Riley attempts a kiss…but she pulls back, wanting to take things slower. He understands, although admits Tori is the one for him…always was. He asks her to give him another chance.
John reads Marilyn’s heartfelt letter to VJ – he thinks it is beautiful. John will pop it round while Marilyn has her hand rehab. He drops her at the hospital, making sure she is all set – she will call him when it’s over. John arrives to find Alf’s the only person around – the rest are catching up on sleep because of Luc. Alf admires Marilyn’s thoughtfulness, asking how her hand rehab went. John grows puzzled…before his brain suddenly kicks in. He can’t believe he forgot Maz! He must have left his phone somewhere. They rush to the hospital, where an anxious Marilyn is hurt by John’s neglect. The bandages on her face and neck have been removed – the skin is healing well but she feels exposed. Deeply apologetic, John offers to pick up her favourite food from Yabbie Creek. Alf will join them for dinner.
A figure steps into the Surf Club Shed, grabbing a can of Pro Oil. The figure turns around to reveal John. Is the arsonist about to strike again?
