Extended Summary

Phoebe approaches the Morgan house and sees the ambulance outside. She rushes over to find Justin being loaded onto the trolley as Tori and Raffy watch. Tori goes in the ambulance, leaving Raffy with Phoebe. At Salt, Brody asks Nate if Tori spoke to him but Nate says they’re not back together and shares his concerns about Riley. Brody says Nate’s got nothing to worry about since Riley cheated on Tori. He then gets a call from Raffy and tells Nate that Justin’s collapsed.

Tori is with the ambulance crew as they bring Justin in. Nate and Riley receive them, with Brody and Phoebe also present. Both Riley and Nate tell Tori to wait outside, although she hovers in the room. Nate and Riley realise the stab wound is infected and take a swab. Justin starts fitting and Tori ushers the others out. In a nearby room, Alf and John are visiting Marilyn, who notes they brought her amethyst, seemingly more by luck than judgement, and asks about Luc. John asks when she’s coming home: Marilyn says it hasn’t been mentioned but doesn’t think she’s ready yet. John thinks there’s no harm in asking.

Tori, Brody, Phoebe and Raffy are waiting in the corridor with Brody leaving a message for Nate. Riley appears and tells them the fit was caused by the infection spreading. Tori translates his description as blood poisoning. Riley says they’re taking Justin to ICU. Brody takes Phoebe and Raffy outside. Nate approaches Tori and apologises for before but Tori says it’s not the time. John calls Nate into Marilyn’s room and asks about her going home. Nate thinks it’s too early and Marilyn is happy to accept it but John thinks she’d be better off at home. Nate says she’d need to come in every couple of days and gives a run-down of the help she’ll need at home. Marilyn thinks it’s too much but John continues to press for it.

Nate briefly chats to Tori before Riley appears and gives her an update on the infection. He tells her it wasn’t her fault. Tori thinks she should have got Justin to slow down but Riley correctly guesses she tried and he ignored her. He hugs Tori, which Nate sees. Later, Riley tells Tori, Brody, Phoebe and Raffy that Justin’s responding to antibiotics and going to be all right. He says only one visitor at a time. Phoebe is nominated and goes in, jokingly calling Justin an attention seeker. Tori thanks Riley but pulls away when he touches her arm.

John brings Marilyn home, insisting he wants to look after her. He lights an incense candle and goes to make a cup of tea but the smoke panics Marilyn and she shouts for John to put it out. John quickly throws it away and apologises. Later, John has laid out the equipment for changing her dressing, Marilyn seems rather nervous, not helped by him consulting instructions. He removes a smaller bandage, but Marilyn complains it hurt. When he tries to remove the protective gauze, Marilyn yells in pain and tells him to stop. John offers to call Nate but Marilyn tells him to just do it, whimpering and crying in pain as he peels it off to reveal the burns.

Riley approaches Brody outside the surf club, calling him Bartles, which he isn’t too happy about. Riley asks about Tori, saying she seemed reserved. Brody reminds him she’s spent years not being able to trust anyone. Riley was hoping she’d go back to how things used to be. Brody tells him Tori likes Nate and he should back off. At the hospital, Tori runs into Nate as he’s leaving to check on John and Maz. He again apologises and they arrange to meet for a drink. Nate then runs into Riley, who claims he’s there to check on a patient. Riley congratulates Nate on getting Tori’s brothers onside but thinks their history trumps it. Nate says he knows Riley cheated on her and thinks the only thing he has with Tori are bad memories.

Brody serves John at Salt. Alf comes in for a takeaway pizza and asks John why he’s not with Marilyn. John says Nate’s with her but quickly leaves; Alf and Brody comment that he seemed out of sorts. Soon after, John apologises to Marilyn for not cooking for her. Marilyn says Nate was pleased but still seems unhappy with the set-up, saying what happened before was traumatic for both of them. John says it’ll be okay once they’re into a routine, but when he looks away, neither of them seems convinced.

Justin wakes up with Phoebe by his side. He apologises for messing up their date and Phoebe apologises for not handling him ignoring her well. Justin says it’s spoiled the surprise, since he had something set up in the back garden. He adds that he’s stubborn but does love her. Phoebe says she loves him too and they kiss. Nearby, Tori is preparing to leave. Riley guesses she’s meeting Nate and tells her Nate’s been asking her brothers questions about him. He also claims Nate tried to bet him that Tori would choose him.

Brody serves Nate drinks at Salt and wishes him luck. Nate joins Tori on the balcony where she almost immediately accuses him of finding out personal things about her and making a bet with Riley. Nate realises it has come from Riley and notes that for all her claims it only took one word from Riley to make her doubt him. Tori backs off a bit, asking him what happened, but Nate says the date was a mistake and leaves. Brody asks Tori what’s going on and she says she screwed up. She heads home and finds Riley waiting on the doorstep; he smugly comments on her date going downhill. Tori accuses him of lying and he freely admits it, saying he wants her back and they’re supposed to be together. He says he’ll leave her to think about it.

John looks at his and Marilyn’s wedding photo. Alf turns up; John says Marilyn’s asleep but Alf is more interested in asking John how he is. John initially claims everything’s fine but eventually admits that he pushed for Marilyn to come home when she didn’t want to because he felt guilty leaving her behind during the fire. He says he thinks he’s made a mistake and was shocked at how bad the burns were. Then he realises Marilyn has overheard.
