Extended Summary

John apologises to Marilyn, saying he can handle it. Alf helpfully describes it as just a wobble. Marilyn agrees they should move on and heads back to bed. Neither Alf nor John is convinced she’s fine with it. Meanwhile, Justin and Phoebe are cuddling at the hospital with Phoebe saying he needs to make up for the failed date with a hot air balloon and champagne and no ambulance. They talk about him being discharged and Justin says they’ll need to convince Tori. Phoebe leaves him to get some sleep, saying in case Tori doesn’t agree she’ll bring his iPad and some car magazines tomorrow.

Next morning, John is making Marilyn breakfast. He notes she was tossing and turning the previous night. Marilyn says she’s going to call Nate and see about being re-admitted to hospital. She stresses that she’s not upset with John but they’re struggling and she thinks it’s best. Near the beach, Kat approaches Alf and says they’ve identified the accelerant as Pro Petrol. Alf says they sell it at the pier but vehemently insists Hunter couldn’t have taken any. Kat says it’s not about that, she wants to know who she’s sold it to.

Zac asks Leah if Luc crying all night is normal. Leah says she’s inherited it from VJ: There’s an awkward moment before Leah says it’s not just about genetics. VJ and Billie come down looking exhausted; Billie is annoyed that she’s not allowed to have coffee and thought VJ had a free period when in fact he has Double Maths. He reminds her that they agreed he needed to go back to school but she doesn’t seem too happy. He heads out without breakfast, taking an apple. Meanwhile, John insists on making tea for Marilyn. He asks her not to go back to hospital, saying he’s sorry he’s made her feel she has to. Marilyn says she’s worried he might resent her. John assures her he won’t and she agrees neither of them is going anywhere.

Phoebe goes to the Morgan house and sees the table set up in the garden. She is impressed but freezes when she sees the jewellery box; she picks it up and plays with it but puts it down without opening it. At Salt, Kat is on the phone to the station about Alf’s list. Phoebe comes in in a panic, saying she saw Justin has an engagement ring. She recalls how everything went wrong with Kyle when he proposed. Kat suggests she’s in a different head space now but is amused when Phoebe says she never actually saw a ring. Phoebe gets a text from Justin saying he’s being discharged and Kat calms her.

Ash finds Leah and Billie taking a rest outside the house. He has brought some cuddly toys for Luc but they convince him to wait rather than disturbing her while she’s asleep. Leah goes to make herself a cuppa and overhears Ash suggesting Billie ask Irene for help since she’s Luc’s grandmother. Later, Ash and Billie are inside and Ash gently picks up Luc. Billie reminds him he’s Uncle Marty, not Uncle Ash. VJ comes home and closes the door loudly, waking Luc. Zac follows him in, saying they’re just back for lunch. Billie asks VJ to take Luc out after school so she can have a break but he’s meant to be working. Ash offers to take her and Zac agrees it would help to have a break. Billie bitterly asks why VJ needs a break and walks out, VJ following trying to placate her. Ash and Zac exchange worried looks.

Alf and John run into each other outside the surf club. Alf asks after Marilyn and John says they had a long chat and things are all right. Kat approaches and John asks her if there’s any news from the investigation. Kat says she needs to have a word with Alf and says she’s been onto his supplier and learned they also supply the surf club. Alf says it must have slipped his mind and lets her check if any’s missing. At the hospital, Justin signs discharge papers and suggests to Phoebe they go home and have that date. A nervous Phoebe says they need to slow down and suggests they just chill with a DVD and pizza. Justin says he knew she was a keeper.

Zac is putting things away in the bedroom and stumbles across the “Yiayia loves me” teddy. Leah comes in and accuses him of snooping. He asks if she was going to give it to Luc. Leah says she was going to do it when they brought her home but forgot in the confusion and will do it later. She denies that there’s another reason. Meanwhile, VJ finds Billie asleep outside and wakes her, saying he got someone to cover for him at work and should have done that in the first place. Billie says Ash has taken Luc out and apologises for their earlier argument. Leah comes out and offers to take Luc for the night so they can rest. They agree.

Phoebe takes Justin for a walk in the garden. He notices the table and asks her to see his effort. Phoebe says it can wait a day, or a year, but Justin leads her over and gives her the box: It contains a guitar necklace. Relieved, Phoebe says she loves it. Justin realises what she thought and agrees it’s too soon but thinks they could get married one day… in 50/60/70 years. Meanwhile, Leah is looking after Luc in her room. Zac asks if Luc will be quiet and Leah says he can sleep on the couch if she disturbs him. Zac asks about the teddy, wondering if the revelation last week affected Leah. Leah insists VJ is still Luc’s father and she’s still her yiayia.

Ash runs into VJ outside, going on a late night nappy run. He mentions Billie seemed miserable earlier and thinks them arguing is a bad sign. VJ thinks it’s normal. Ash says Billie wouldn’t cope without him in her life and VJ responds that he is. Ash accepts Billie and Luc are lucky to have him but says they can call on Uncle Ash for help. VJ reminds him he’s Uncle Marty. Ash doesn’t think it’ll stick. Inside, Leah puts Luc down. She sees the teddy and picks it up but then starts crying and drops it to the floor.
