Extended Summary

John, Matt, Zac, Evelyn and Phoebe continue to shelter in the shack. Evelyn emerges from under the blanket coughing. Phoebe looks out the window and sees the fire has passed over them. John notes it’s only for now. A short time later, John tries to convince everyone they need to make a run for it: The shack won’t stand up to more fire and they’re out of water. Evelyn is reluctant and Zac offers to stay with her while everyone else goes but Evelyn accepts they should stick together. John says they need to head north towards the road.

Tori leaves messages for both Brody and Mason before checking in with Nate, who says the surgeon still hasn’t arrived. Sarah emerges from Justin’s room and says he’s tachycardic. Justin is confused, thinking he’s still looking for Tori, and Tori does her best to calm him. Nate asks for an ETA on the surgeon. Later, Tori tries to keep Justin awake and tells Nate he needs an emergency laparotomy, and if there’s no surgeon available she’ll do it herself. Nate asks her to at least wait while he checks on Billie.

Nate sees that Billie’s CO2 levels are poor and thinks she needs intubating as soon as possible, wanting to take her into theatre for a caesarean. Billie asks VJ to stop him, saying after the way the child was made she needs to be in control for the birth. She says she wants to push and the midwife reports she’s fully dilated. Nate agrees to let her try. Irene and Leah are near the surf club when VJ calls Leah, telling her Billie’s in labour and to get Ash. Leah excitedly tells Irene and dashes off. She bumps into Mick but fails to recognise him, telling him she’s going to be a grandmother and hurrying off. Mick looks after Irene, who is walking away and hasn’t seen him.

John’s group arrive at the road block and find Alf and Brody. John is concerned that there’s no sign of Marilyn but Alf suggests she might be at the hospital and John and Zac get a lift there in an SES vehicle. Alf asks if there’s a head count for the festival and Phoebe offers to help out. Brody asks about Mason and learns he went off with Olivia. He and Hunter go to look for them. Matt and Evelyn reiterate that they love each other. Brody and Hunter walk through the bush, calling out for Olivia and Mason. Hunter blames Mason for dragging Olivia away but Brody says Mason didn’t know about the fire and tells Hunter to stop being jealous. As Hunter carries on, something falls on him.

Leah arrives at the hospital, leaving a message for Ash. She comes to the delivery room and watches through the doors. Nate and VJ offer Billie encouragement as she delivers the baby. Billie, VJ and Leah are all smiles as the child is handed to her. John is asking at the desk and learns there’s no record of Marilyn being there. He wants to go back to the bush to search for her but Alf says the SES are already doing that and they’d be better off searching the Bay. Leah takes photos of VJ, Billie and the baby. However, Billie then stops breathing. VJ takes the baby and hands her to a nurse as Nate starts to intubate.

Nate tells Leah and VJ that Billie’s stable and there shouldn’t be any long term effects but she’ll have to stay on the ventilator for a day or so. VJ finally gets through to Ash and tells him what’s happened. Tori tells Sarah to prep Justin for theatre and that she’s going to operate herself. However, Sarah then reports the surgeon’s there. The surgeon, Riley, recognises Tori and Justin as Tess and Jack, and says he was told his patient was Justin Morgan. Tori says that’s his name now. VJ brings the baby to Leah and says they came up with a name a while back: Luc Leah Patterson, as in Lucille. Leah thinks she should be Lucy, even when VJ explains it’s after Billie’s brother. Ash arrives and is introduced to Luc; he says the name’s perfect and VJ gives Leah a pointed look. Ash looks through the window at Billie.

Phoebe, Matt and Evelyn arrive back at the farm house, all of them exhausted. Evelyn wants a long shower although Matt would prefer to eat. Evelyn reflects on the fact they almost died and Matt assures her he was as scared as her. They kiss and Phoebe tells them to save it for the shower. They offer to let her go first but she rests her head on the table, seemingly to sleep, and they slip out. Back at the hospital, Ash goes into the room where Billie is unconscious on the ventilator. He regrets not being there for her and wishes their mum could have seen Luc. He tells Billie she’ll be the best mum in the world and kisses her on the forehead.

Tori and Raffy wait until Justin is brought back from theatre. Riley tells them everything went as well as it could, with the damage repaired. Tori introduces Raffy as her sister and tells Riley her new name. Riley is bemused at how much has changed in the last seven years, including wondering where she got a thirteen-year-old sister from. Tori says she’ll explain later. Meanwhile, Irene is at home when Mick walks in. He greets her in an outwardly pleasant but somewhat sinister manner, saying he’s better now and the doctors told him he can’t blame her for his life. Irene reminds him he locked her up for six weeks and Mick irritably says he’s trying to apologise. Irene says she forgives him but he needs to leave. Mick shows no sign of moving, telling her to give it a chance.

Hunter is wheeled into hospital with Nate and Zac accompanying him: A branch hit him. He learns Olivia still hasn’t appeared and insists it’s just a headache. However, Nate wants him to get checked over and says his arm needs stitches. Leah arrives and gives Zac an update on Billie before going to check on Hunter. Meanwhile, Tori and Raffy are with Justin, who is upset he didn’t get to see Ava. Brody joins them and Tori admits Turner is still loose but insists Kat’s looking for her. Brody decides to go and look too, although Raffy is stopped from going with him. None of them see Turner nearby, disguised in scrubs.
