Leah is transferred to a city hospital – she may never wake up from her coma. Oscar tracks down Maddy in the city.
Extended Summary
Roo blows up at Spencer after he sends Oscar off alone to look for Maddy. Feeling like she should be the one searching, Roo tells Spencer that he’s playing with Maddy’s life by doing this. Alf suggests to Roo that Spencer and Oscar’s plan may not be such a bad idea. But Roo can’t stop feeling like a failure. Meanwhile, Spencer starts to doubt whether he’s done the right thing. Oscar arrives in the city. Back in Summer Bay, Roo apologises for blowing up at Spencer. They brainstorm places Maddy could’ve gone to together. Spencer mentions that Maddy always loved music, and Roo notes that Maddy’s violin is missing. They pass this information on to Oscar, who is looking for clues in Maddy’s scrapbook. He notices a picture of a scenic gazebo in the book, and asks a passer-by if they know where it is. He finds Maddy in the gazebo, playing her violin. She’s not pleased to see him, and tells him that he’s wasting his time if he thinks she’s going back to Summer Bay. But Oscar simply asks to buy her a coffee. He tells her about the car crash, and Maddy urges him to return to Hannah. Oscar tells Maddy that if she’s not going home, neither is he. He calls home and tells them that he’s located Maddy.
Irene learns from Zac that Leah is being transferred to a city hospital so she can receive specialist neurosurgical care. The news starts to sink in: Leah may never wake up from her coma. Zac tries to tell VJ that he’s there for him, but VJ struggles to accept Zac’s support. Plus, Zac is so focussed on trying to make things seem ‘normal’, that it’s driving VJ crazy. There’s nothing normal about the situation they’re in. VJ tries to blow off some steam with Jett over a game of pool. He asks Jett if he still has the keys to the Polaris, and makes Jett let him take it out for a joyride. They hoon down the beach and across the caravan park. VJ tells Jett he has to go, and encourages him to leave the Polaris in the caravan park so they don’t get caught. However, Jett tries to return it to the surf club, and ends up crashing the Polaris into a tent. Ash and Roo hear the commotion and run over. Meanwhile, John visits Zac to give him some advice for dealing with a grieving teenager. He tells Zac that he shouldn’t feel he needs to pretend anything is normal, or to hide his feelings from VJ. When VJ gets home, Zac tells him he’s scared about the future. The two slowly begin to grow closer.
