The devastation of the bus crash sends shockwaves through the Bay. Andy and Ash rescue Phoebe from Neive’s assistant. Roo learns that Maddy has run away from hospital.
Extended Summary
It’s the immediate aftermath of the bus crash. Brax and Josh are okay – although Josh has hit his head on impact. Nate and Sophie have also survived. But the bus lies overturned, eerily silent, with no signs of life. Brax runs towards the bus, calling for Ricky. He climbs up onto the bus and lowers himself in. Ricky’s okay, but she’s worried about the baby. Nate climbs amongst the mangled wreckage towards Sasha, who’s calling out for him. She’s desperately trying to stop the bus driver from losing too much blood. Nate come over and checks his pulse. Sasha can stop – he’s died and there’s nothing more they can do. Suddenly, Denny calls for Nate. She and Evelyn are okay, but Hannah has been impaled by part of the wreckage and is badly injured. Meanwhile, Brax discovers Kyle stuck under a pile of debris. Brax starts trying to free him, but Nate tells Brax to stop. He takes Brax aside and tells him that releasing the pressure on Kyle’s body too suddenly could kill him. They need to wait for specialised equipment to extract him or he’ll die.
Alf and Roo learn that Maddy has run away from the hospital. As Roo starts to panic, Alf gets a call about the bus accident. He immediately mobilises the SES and travels out to the crash site. Hannah is rushed to hospital, where she’s taken straight to theatre. Josh waits with Evie at the hospital, telling her that he was coming to tell her that he loves her and wants to be with her at the time of the crash. The young couple kiss, reunited. Back at the accident site, Nate organises lifting equipment to free Kyle from the bus. After Nate tells Brax to prepare himself for the worst, Kyle tells Brax to look after Phoebe for him. Suddenly, Kyle goes into cardiac standstill. They are forced to pull him from the wreckage – things looking bleak. A traumatized Sasha watches as the bus driver’s body is taken away in a body bag. Sophie comes up to Nate, still involved in a rescue operation, and tells him that her wrist hurts. He tells her to take a look at the devastation around her. When Sasha asks Denny if she’s seen Leah, Denny assures her that she’s probably already gone to hospital. Neither of them notice Leah’s body laying a few metres from the crash site, concealed by bushes.
Meanwhile, Phoebe’s launch has turned from bad to worse. Ash and Andy are stuck in the basement, while Neive’s sleazy assistant is upstairs, encouraging a drugged Phoebe to take her clothes off and lie down with him (the whole incident being recorded on a camera set up by Neive). Andy and Ash manage to smash through the locked door and run upstairs. They rescue Phoebe from Neive’s assistant, while Neive bursts in and calls for security. Ash pushes away the guards, telling Neive that what happened to Phoebe is her fault. After they leave, Neive’s assistant tells Neive that they’ve still got enough footage to get the internet buzzing. As they go to drive off, Andy calls Kyle, wondering why he never turned up. They discover from Brax that Kyle has been seriously injured.
