Extended Summary

After being bashed, Penn is in hospital. Charlie is surprised to learn he has accused Alf of the bashing, but Sid thinks she needs to be careful what she believes from Penn – he’s done nothing but lie ever since he arrived. Combined with the needle-stick injury to Nicole and the clear bad blood between Penn and Alf, Charlie knows this is motive and she needs to talk to Alf about what’s going on. While in hospital, Penn crashes and Sid is forced to rush him to the operating theatre to save his life. It’s touch and go, but Sid is eventually able to resuscitate and stabilise him. Charlie questions Alf about what happened with Penn, but he stays mostly silent, refusing to talk about what happened. No matter what Charlie does, Alf refuses to open up, leaving her with little choice but to charge him.

Dex is more determined than ever to convince Marilyn that she is meant to be with him, not with his dad. He rehearses a speech, goes to see her, but can’t seem to get the speech out. He falters, and just when it looks like it won’t work, Marilyn reveals that she is worried about Alf being taken down to the Police Station, and Dex comforts her. But the moment is a strange one for Marilyn, Dex gets a little too close and she asks if he has a crush on her. He quickly denies it and rushes out, but Marilyn is left unconvinced.

Nicole struggles after the needle-stick injury, she’s been dropping the ball at school and Miles is glad to see that she’s back trying to study. She confides in Miles that she doesn’t quite know what to do about Penn – things are always changing with him, she never quite knows where she stands. Miles tells her he thinks that’s Penn’s game – to create confusion, and she shouldn’t buy into it. She’s not so sure about this, and is even further thrown when she learns of Penn’s bashing.

Ruby is still being very obnoxious after she bought the alcohol. She’s rude to Leah, and Leah’s not standing for it. When Irene turns up at Leah’s to talk to Ruby about what happened, Ruby delivers an apology to them both. And while Irene buys it, Leah isn’t sold, she thinks it’s all an act Ruby’s putting on so that people get off her back.
