Extended Summary
Although Amanda survives the car crash, she lies pinned inside while petrol spews from the engine. Kelli watches on with satisfaction – the car could explode at any moment. Kelli reveals how she still blames Amanda for the accident that scarred her for life. No it’s Amanda’s turn to suffer! Kelli admits she orchestrated Amanda’s downfall over the past Months – even the charade of Amanda and Ethan’s affair. Finally satisfied with her revenge, Kelli leaves the trapped Amanda to her fate. The car explodes. Peter has picked up Ethan at Amanda’s house and are in pursuit of Amanda and Kelli. They arrive at the scene of the burning car and Peter soon discovers that Amanda managed to free herself just before the explosion. He rushes her to hospital, where she undergoes emergency surgery for internal bleeding. Although the police arrest Ethan and later Kelli, Amanda is left reeling in the wake of her sister’s callous betrayal. Peter comforts her lovingly.
Meanwhile, Kim is taken aback when he learns Rachel has paid Kit’s bill at the hospital. Kim thinks he should be the one paying the bills. Rachel defends her actions – she was only trying to help. A heated argument soon erupts, propelling Rachel to accept Hugh invitation to the medical conference. Once there, Rachel tries to drink away her troubles with Hugh. In her drunken state, she laments her situation, wishing she could have married someone more mature like Hugh. They share a longing look, but Rachel passes out before anything more can happen. Hugh is left more confused than ever, his heart secretly burning for her.
Back in Summer Bay, Kit is struggling to cope with her newborn and her grief over Beth’s death. Turning to Kim for support, her emotions get the better of her and she kisses him. Has she made the biggest mistake of her life?
