Alf becomes an unwitting pawn in a dangerous jail break. Dan and Leah let a chance at reconciliation pass them by. Cassie and Macca’s attraction heats up.

Extended Summary

Jack, Kim and Rachel are preparing some drinks for the housewarming when Dan barges in, frantic that Amanda has skipped town and she’s taken Ryan with her! The others are stunned but do their best to calm Dan. Dan can’t believe he didn’t see it coming. Jack gets off the phone from the police station and the news is not good. Amanda and Ryan have just boarded a plane to Europe! There is no hope of stopping them now! Dan is beside himself as the rage starts boiling over – what will he do now?

Leah’s lunch date with Hugh is going well. Hugh admits he was surprised to hear from her but Leah says Rachel put a lot in perspective. Maybe it’s time she moved on. They lock eyes and there’s a moment of urst – are they about to kiss? The moment is broken by the arrival of Rachel, who is surprised to see them together. Leah detects that something is bothering Rachel. Rachel reveals that Amanda has done a runner and taken Ryan with her! Leah is lost for words!

Later, Hugh and Leah are walking along the beach, but Leah is distracted with her thoughts of Dan. Nature calls and Hugh dashes up to the Surf Club. Leah and Dan are walking towards each other, Leah offers her apology for the bad news. Both look at each other, knowing there is so much to say! Leah is about to tell Dan her true feelings before the moment is interrupted by the return of Hugh. Leah awkwardly introduces Hugh before they move off – both Dan and Leah are only too aware of the opportunity that’s just passed them by.

Macca emerges looking every bit impressive and informs Martha and Morag he has a date with Cassie. Martha gives a knowing look, reminding Macca of his earlier promise to take care of Cassie. Morag is off to the prison to visit Alf and comments on his wavering morale. Martha decides to join Morag with the intention of trying to cheer Alf up.

Poor Alf sits alone in prison, his spirits are at a low but are instantly buoyed when he hears Morag and Martha are waiting for him in the visitors’ room. Alf does his best to keep up his brave front but is deflated when Morag delivers the news the appeal is taking a lot longer than expected. Alf heads back to the yard, resigned to the idea he may not be heading home early. Alf clocks his cell mate, Davey, being hassled by two other inmates. Alf approaches, causing the bullies to scurry away. Alf has been keeping an eye out for young Davey…he only has 2 months on his 5 year term to serve and Alf doesn’t want to see him getting in trouble.

But Alf soon discovers Davey has pocketed one of the guards keys and quickly figures out it has something to do with the two other inmates who were hassling Davey earlier. Alf is keeping an eagle-eye on Davey and follows him out to the front gate. It’s dark and from a distance, Alf watches on as the other two inmates arrive to join Davey. There’s no doubt they are intent on escaping. Alf feels helpless as he watches the situation unfold before him. A truck pulls up and much to Alf’s horror, the inmates attack the driver and take off. The sirens begin to blare, Davey panics and races inside without being seen but watches on guiltily as Alf is captured and accused of the foiled escape!

Meanwhile, Macca and Cassie are getting on like a house on fire. Macca admits to Cassie that Martha has been on his back about doing the right thing. Macca says he might have been a player, but if he found the right girl?…the suggestion is clear as they slowly move into a passionate kiss.

Martha arrives home is taken aback by Macca’s talk of staying in town. He is clearly smitten with Cassie which leaves Martha thinking that maybe her brother is growing up and changing his bad boy ways after all.
