Samantha Walker was a youth worker who came to see Ailsa after Emma, Ailsa’s niece, expressed an interest in coming to live with her. Ailsa told Mrs Walker that she hadn’t had any family for 20 years, but was then told that Emma had been accused of attacking her stepfather and he was pressing charges. There had also been accusations that her stepfather was abusing Emma and that if Ailsa didn’t agree, Emma would be put in a remand centre.

After some thought and the opinions of others around town, Ailsa agreed to take Emma in.
