Stephen Ross was an old friend of Dylan Russell’s.He was also acquainted with Duncan Stewart, who attended the same school as him in the city. When he and Dylan had an argument, Dylan’s mother Angie, without Dylan’s agreement, took revenge on him by seducing him and then dumping him, leaving him devastated.Angie later tried to do the same to Nick Smith but failed, so accused him of assaulting her instead.Dylan took Nick’s side and contacted Stephen, asking him to testify in Nick’s defence about what Angie had done to him.

Stephen arrived in town and agreed to help Dylan. However, when Angie found out he was in town, she went to see him and convinced him they could be together if he helped her.Stephen told the court that nothing had happened between him and Angie, leading to Nick being found guilty and receiving a non-custodial sentence. When Dylan confronted him afterwards, Stephen insisted he’d told the truth and the relationship had all been in Dylan’s head.He then told Nick that he and Angie were going to be together and refused to listen to Nick’s warnings that he’d been deceived.

Although Angie let Stephen comfort her when she was given a hard time at school, she soon realised that his being around was affecting her credibility and told him to stay away for her.Stephen came to the hospital after Dylan was injured in an accident at the boat shed but Angie refused to let him see him, telling him he was nothing to do with her family.Realising he’d been used, Stephen left town in a broken state.

When Angie turned up dead a few weeks later, Rhys Sutherland suggested Stephen to the police as a suspect only to be told Stephen had been in a mental hospital ever since his visit to the Bay.
