Emily is first seen in the corridors of the high school when she is hassling Dexter Walker about his recent abduction by the River Boys. April interrupts the conversation, causing Emily to ask whether she’d made any home-made bombs lately in reference to April stealing chemicals from the school. Miss Scott walks by, suggesting to Emily that she should be revising for her upcoming French exam.
A few days later Emily writes a romantic message down on a piece of paper, which Xavier hopes to use to impress April seeing as it’s written in French, her native language.
April’s incident with the chemicals soon becomes a source of amusement once again for Emily, who continues to hassle April when she is paired with her in a science experiment which they have to present to the class. Emily is clearly unimpressed that she has to work with April, hoping to get the work done quickly so that her and the other girls don’t have to spend much time with April.
Emily couldn’t be happier when she hears the news of Romeo and Indigo’s split, bumping into Romeo and Xavier outside the Diner, offering a ‘friendly shoulder’ to the newly-single Romeo if he needs it. Romeo turns her down, but she makes it clear her offer still stands if he changes his mind. The next day, having seen Indigo moving on from the split at a party, Romeo sees Emily and asks if she’d still like to go for a coffee. Soon after, Miles catches the pair kissing in a classroom, and tells them that their behaviour is inappropriate.
Romeo soon quits school for the second time, and bumps into Emily at the beach. She notices how unhappy he seems and says that she could help him take his mind off things. The pair are next seen taking photos on Emily’s phone and Romeo tells her he has to go to find a job, seeing as Miles and Morag had given him an ultimatum to find a job or move out. His relationship with Emily comes in handy as she tells him that her father runs a courier service and finds it hard to hang on to staff. Romeo says he is interested so they go for coffee.
A few weeks later Emily appears at the hospital, receiving news from Sid that she has contracted an STI. Sid re-assures her that they had caught it early on, and it can be treated. He then tells her that she needs to contact sexual partners, to which she replies that she knows exactly who she caught it from: Romeo
