Mr Jarvis

Mr Jarvis (1988)
John Stone
Episodes: Pilot

Occupation: Community Support Officer

In 1978 when Tom and Pippa were looking to foster their first child, Mr Jarvis handed a file to them and explained that Frank was a very difficult child. Tom asked how he meant and he explained that three arrests by the time he was eight wasn’t bad going, but that it wasn’t surprising considering his background, his father was in and out of jail, his mother an alcoholic.

He asked if Tom and Pippa knew what they were taking on and they explained they never thought it would be easy but Mr Jarvis interrupted them. Tom quickly silenced him though by stating that that was why they were there and Pippa added that if there was any more like Frank, they’d be just as happy to take them.

Mr Jarvis suggested that they might find one was quite sufficient, but Tom replied that he would find that he was wrong.

Ten years and several foster children later, Pippa was seen remarking out loud that it was “more like five was sufficient Mr Jarvis.”
