Extended Summary
Ash and Tori are chatting outside the Morgan house while Justin watches through the window. Ash asks Tori how long she’s known and Tori says since the funeral. She says Robbo was hurt and she needed to help him. Ash says she should have been on his side. Tori says she was but Ash is unconvinced and walks away. Willow joins Justin; he fills her in, then goes after Ash, saying he was running around like a maniac and Tori was trying to protect him. Ash says they didn’t give him a chance. Justin gives up and goes back to the house. At the caravan park house, Roo has got a box down. Marilyn arrives and says she’s just been to the hospital. Roo asks how Alf is. Marilyn says he misses her but is coming home tomorrow. She suggests Roo collect him but Roo is happy to let John do it. Alf calls her but she turns the phone over. Alf leaves a message saying they need to talk. Marilyn tries to get Roo to talk to him but Roo says it’s getting late and she should go. Alf looks at a photo of himself and Roo while Roo looks at one of Martha and a child (presumably herself).
Next morning, John brings Alf to the house. Alf is in a grumpy mood, refusing John’s offer to take his bag upstairs or get him anything. He says it’s not his first heart attack. Roo comes through and thanks John for bringing Alf. John leaves. Roo asks about his medication. Alf tries to talk to her but she says she’s made him lunch but has to do schoolwork. As she leaves, she pauses to add that it’s good to have him back. At the police station, Colby interviews Robbo, showing him Kat’s necklace. He asks why Robbo changed his mind about getting away and Robbo says he got sick of running. He claims he hid out in the shed of a bush property and the owner never saw him, although he can’t say where it was. Robbo is taken back to the cells. McCarthy thanks Colby for his help. Colby asks if they still need him with Robbo under arrest and the River Boys quietening down. McCarthy asks if there’s something else he should know. Colby says there isn’t.
Ash runs into Dean near the beach and says the police let him go. Dean apologises for not holding the police off long enough for Ash to finish off Robbo but Ash thanks him for his help. Ash carries on, walking past Tori. She calls out that she’s sorry but says they love each other. Ash says they don’t trust each other and it’s over. He heads to the garage where he ignores Justin and looks over the accounts. Justin says he’s already done them but Ash says he can’t rely on him. Justin protests that he was the one looking after the place while Ash was running around with the River Boys, but eventually gives up and leaves him to it.
Willow emerges from Justin’s room to find Buddy sitting outside. She stoops to play with him and hears Tori crying in the bathroom, going to check on her. Tori says it’s over with Ash. Willow offers to call Justin but Tori says not to. Later, they have relocated to the couch and Tori says she should have just handed Robbo over to the police. She says she was wrong to break the law and lie to Ash but Willow thinks it was for the right reasons. She wonders why Tori is with Ash, who seems like the guys Willow grew up with. Tori says he has a good heart and is protective of the people he cares about but admits they haven’t seen much of that lately.
Marilyn is surprised to see Roo at the Diner. Roo says she’s marking Year 8 assignments and Alf’s at home. Marilyn thinks Roo should be with him. Roo says it’s complicated and, when Marilyn presses the point, quickly leaves, passing John. Later, at the gym, John gives a statement to Colby, saying he heard a dozen or more River Boys showed up but admits he only saw Ash and Dean. He says they need someone like Colby around. Colby isn’t sure if he’s sticking around but, after a bit more persuading from John, agrees to consider it. After John has gone into the office, Dean enters and calls Colby Constable Dropkick. Colby reminds him he was meant to stay away. Dean says Colby might fool everyone else but he knows who he is.
Robbo is in the holding cell looking at the photo of his family. McCarthy comes in, saying he saw the recording of his interview and is glad he’s co-operating. He notes Robbo will be charged with Dennis Novak’s murder and held there until he can be taken to remand. Robbo asks about Beckett Reid’s crimes. McCarthy says they’re still deciding on that, since there are few precedents. At the Morgan house, Willow is continuing to reassure Tori as Justin returns and they explain to him. Willow suggests Tori go away on her own for a couple of days, noting that’s what she does when things go wrong with a guy. Justin, suspicious, asks how often that happens.
Roo is sitting in the caravan park. Alf approaches, saying he’s on his way to the bait shop and he was told to take light exercise. He offers to talk to Roo but she still isn’t in the mood. Instead, she goes to the police station and meets Colby, reminding him how he helped her and Alf. She explains her mother was presumed drowned years ago but she’s found out that’s not true. Colby offers to check the investigation and Roo says her name was Martha Stewart and it was 1984. Colby says that’s before computer records so he’ll need to get the file from the archives.
Later, at the Diner, Roo tells Marilyn about Colby helping. Marilyn suggests she might get the answers better by talking to Alf. Roo says she knows Marilyn’s heart’s in the right place but she needs to back off. Marilyn persists however, saying it might be the only way to get answers. Back at the Stewart house, John tells Alf daughters always come back to their fathers eventually; he didn’t see Shandi in years but they talk now. Roo arrives and Alf indicates for John to leave. Roo says she’s ready to hear everything.
Justin arrives back at the garage and has a go at Ash for hurting Tori. Ash says she betrayed him; Justin says she was trying to protect him. Ash says they should have let him do what he needed to. Justin retorts that Ash would lie to protect Luc, Billie or Kat and he’s blaming Tori for doing what he’d do himself. Dean arrives offering Ash a drink and Justin leaves. Ash and Dean sit outside; Ash has filled Dean in that Tori and Justin knew where Robbo was. He wonders if he was harsh but Dean agrees with him. He says he had a best friend once, someone a couple of years older that he grew up with and looked up to, but he bailed when he needed him most and you can’t get past that. As he talks, Colby goes back to his caravan and takes off his shirt to reveal a Blood and Sand tattoo.
