To the Boy in Berlin, by Elizabeth Honey in collaboration with her German translator Heike Brandt. It's the fourth in her Henni Octen books and it combines the styles of two of my favourite books, Remote Man, also by Elizabeth Honey, and Letters from the Inside by John Marsden. Not surprisingly, so far it's the best book I've read in months.

I also just reread The Ballad of Cauldron Bay, the third Henni Octen book. Good thing I did because I'd forgotten the Leopold Schmidt backstory, and it gets followed up on in To the Boy in Berlin.
