FORMER Home and Away star Tessa James is the latest big name to join the Channel 9 miniseries about the Beaconsfield Mine collapse.

James will play Lauren Kielmann, the daughter of miner Larry Knight, who was killed in the 2006 accident.

She joins Shane Jacobson, Lachy Hulme and Steve Vizard in the cast of the series, which has already started filming.

James met the real Lauren before she started filming and realises just how important it is to get the role right.

"I don't think I realised how big a responsibility it was until I actually met Lauren and how important it was to do her justice," James said.

"It's a big responsibility portraying a real person, but it's a huge reason why I do what I do; and I love what I do, being able to retell people's stories to the world."

It's nice to see that she is already working on a new project. :)

What a lovely quote from Tessa - mature & sensitive. She's obviously motivated by her craft and not a desire for fame. Good on her. Hope to see more of her in the Aussie industry :)

Thanks Barbara for the article on Tessa James.

It looks like another superb mini-series with a stellar cast and hopefully a great script as well. I look forward to watching this mini-series as I have heard a lot about it.

Being from tasmania I really hope they do the Beaconsfield Mine Collapse Justice.... because it literally was a tragedy that happened, but its great to see Tessa is so compassionate and wanting to get the role perfect! I seriously hope the channel 9 writers dont mess this up!

Glad she got another role so quickly after the show.

She'll be great.

Can't wait to see how they recreate everything. Hopefully it'll be done right!
