Emily: Marilyn, don't change!

As bubbly Marilyn Chambers she's famed for her bouffant blonde 'do, daring dress sense and even bolder personality, but Home and Away's Emily Symons insists that she wouldn't change a thing about her much-loved alter ego. Earlier this year we grabbed a few moments with the star to find out all about life in Summer Bay, from dream storylines to guest-star wish lists, and why she hopes Marilyn will be holding on to her wardrobe full of leopard print and sky-high stilettos.

So, Marilyn has survived her predicted death date. Will this be a new lease of life for her? Will she be as dippy as ever?

I don't think Marilyn will ever change her personality, and I don't think the fans would want her to either.

If you were a scriptwriter, what sort of year would you give her?

I would have her re-open Marilyn's beauty chamber and concentrate on beautifying the residents of Summer Bay!

What about Marilyn's, ahem, idiosyncratic style?

Marilyn is who she is and doesn't care what anybody thinks. In her mind that's how a lady of her age would dress – she thinks it's absolutely normal and is proud of her style, although Colleen definitely disapproves!

Would you like to see her get a makeover?

If she did, she wouldn't be Marilyn. To make her look 'normal', it wouldn't be true to the character, so I don't think she should change.

Who would be your dream guest star?

Sheree Murphy. We are such good friends and worked together on Emmerdale. Sheree is so fun and bubbly, and would make a great UK friend of Marilyn's.

Are you missing the chills of filming at Emmerdale?

No!

How warm is it over in Australia? Make us jealous!

We just went through our summer, so between 30-40 degrees Celsius – very hot!

Do you still keep in touch with your Yorkshire pals?

Yes, I do - not as frequently as I would like to due to work and time differences.

You famously took part in Dancing On Ice in 2007. Have you kept up with the ice skating?

No, unfortunately not. I think it's safer for everybody if I never get on the ice again.

Would you do another reality show? I'm A Celebrity, perhaps?

I don't know. I think I could as I wouldn't be afraid of the spiders – but I get really cranky when I'm hungry, so that wouldn't be pleasant for everyone else!

Any personal plans this year?

I was in Hawaii over the Christmas break and have moved house recently, so I have been enjoying getting settled. I also have a beautiful new niece Eva born late last year, so I'm loving getting to know her and being a good auntie.
