Johnny is sitting on the edge of the bath while Kayla is dabbing at his wounds with a cotton ball. JOHNNY: Ouch! KAYLA: Don't be such a baby. JOHNNY: That stings! KAYLA: You're the one who didn't want to go to the hospital! Besides, I could leave it, but then it's just going to get infected. So just... deal with it. JOHNNY: Well yes mam! KAYLA: Look, why don't you want to go to the police? JOHNNY: I can't. KAYLA: Johnny, it's the only way! What if they hurt you again? JOHNNY: I'll be fine. KAYLA: But... JOHNNY: Look, if I go to the police then you might get hurt. And I'd rather take a few punches than allow that. KAYLA: Johnny... They kiss. Johnny gasps and Kayla pulls away. KAYLA: Sorry! JOHNNY; Man... next time they should just lay off my face! KAYLA: I hope there won't be a next time. JOHNNY: So do I. He hugs her and smiles maliciously. IN THE HOSPITAL. Sally is sitting next to Abbie. ABBIE: I... have to say this now... there... there isn't going to be a later. SALLY: Okay. ABBIE: Sally... you're a good person... I need... a favour... SALLY: I'll try and help. What is it? ABBIE: Jane's... real parents... they can't get to her... I need you... to be her mother... in every sense... We've talked about this... SALLY: Yes, I told you - I'll love her like she's my own daughter. You know that. Abbie motions to some papers lying on the desk next to her bed. ABBIE: I... already signed the papers. Please... if you sign it... they can't get to her... they don't know anything about her... I'm the only lead they have... SALLY: I'll sign it. ABBIE: Now. Please. Sally picks up the documents and signs it. Abbie squeezes her hand. ABBIE: Tell Janey... I'll always... love her. She closes her eyes and the machine makes that dreadful sound announcing that her heart has stopped. Rachel comes in, someone drags Sally away from the bed and they pull the covers over Abbie's face. Sally slowly leaves the room, still clutching the papers. Jane rushes forward when she sees Sally. JANE: What did she say? Is she all right? She looked fine when I was in there, she's going to be okay, isn't she? When is she coming home? Sally pulls Jane into a hug, holding back tears. SALLY: She is home. Jane starts crying, holding onto Sally. Rocco softly touches her back and she turns, throwing herself into his arms. JANE: That's my mum, Roc! My mum! He holds her while she sobs. ON THE BEACH - IT IS ALREADY DARK. No one there... then there is a whistle and Johnny emerges from the dark. Someone whistles back and Sam comes out. SAM: So I take it she fell for it? JOHNNY: Hook, line and sinker. SAM: Good. JOHNNY: Although... next time - a little easier on the face. It hurts like hell. You're lucky it was my idea. I was tempted to hit back. SAM: Hey! I only do what the leader tells me to! The guys laugh and take five. JOHNNY: Well we have to steer clear of each other for a while. When Kayla wants to go back to daddy it should be too late... and it'll be all his fault. I'm going to get him back for landing me in jail. SAM: I thought it was Sally Fletcher's fault? JOHNNY: Oh, who cares whose fault it was, I don't like Brad's face. SAM: Got it. So you won't be going to any family dinners then? JOHNNY: Not a chance! They laugh again. Then both guys take off. Lucas steps out from behind the bushes, frowning... TEASER FOR THE NEXT PART: He heard what he shouldn't have... SAM: Got it. So you won't be going to any family dinners then? JOHNNY: Not a chance! They laugh again. Then both guys take off. Lucas steps out from behind the bushes, frowning... But will he tell his ex? LUCAS: Kayla... KAYLA: Luc, I can't talk now, I'm meeting Johnny and I'm already late! And while someone is grieving over a life ending... ... someone else is shocked over a life starting... Can you even remember the last time we had the house to ourselves? SALLY: No. BRAD: You okay? SALLY: Yeah... I just feel so sorry for Jane... BRAD: Where did Rocco take her? SALLY: He organized a picnic on the beach for the two of them... She doesn't want to see anyone else, so he's trying to get through to her. BRAD: Oh, he will. She likes him a lot. SALLY: Yeah... BRAD: Hey. We have the house to ourselves again, and I know our lives are far from perfect. But maybe we should focus on the two of us tonight... He pulls her closer and kisses her. There's a knock on the door and Brad groans. BRAD: We never get to be alone anymore! I'll get it. He stands up and opens the door. BRAD: Hey, Luc... LUCAS: Is Kayla here? BRAD: No, she lives with Johnny... LUCAS: You have got to get her out of there. She's in danger. BRAD: I think you should come in. JOHNNY AND KAYLA'S PLACE. Kayla is lying on the couch, reading. Johnny comes in and kisses her. JOHNNY: Hey babe. KAYLA: Hey, Johnny. JOHNNY: What are you reading? KAYLA: Oh, just some stupid love story. Where were you? JOHNNY: I took a walk... wanted to clear my head. KAYLA: Is everything all right? JOHNNY: Yeah. KAYLA: I'm quickly going to the diner to get us something to eat. Johnny puts his arms around her waist and pulls her down so she sits on his lap. JOHNNY: I'm not hungry for food... They kiss. Kayla pulls away and smiles. KAYLA: But I'm starving. I'll be quick. JOHNNY: Hmmm... Okay. Super quick? KAYLA: Promise! She leaves. Johnny sits back and turns on the TV. FLETCHER HOUSE SALLY: Are you serious? LUCAS: Yeah. I came immediately... BRAD: I've got to tell Kayla! SALLY: Brad, wait... He storms out of the house and Sally frowns. SALLY; Oh, he's only going to make it worse! JOHNNY AND KAYLA'S PLACE Brad knocks on the door. Johnny opens it and smiles. JOHNNY: Brad! Or should I call you dad now? What do you want? BRAD: Where's my daughter? JOHNNY: Not here. He closes the door but Brad pushes him away and grabs Johnny's collar. BRAD: If you do anything to hurt her, Cooper... JOHNNY: Yeah? You'll do what? Threaten me? I'm scared. Leave now, I'm watching the footy and waiting for my girlfriend to come back from the Diner. Oops. I told you where she is. What are you going to do about it? Brad releases him and goes out. He enters the diner and rushes to Leah. BRAD: Leah! Was Kayla here? LEAH: No, why? BRAD: I'm looking for her! He goes out again and Leah frowns. JOHNNY AND KAYLA'S PLACE. Kayla enters with a few shopping bags and some stuff from the diner. KAYLA: Sorry, the que was enourmous. What are you watching? JOHNNY: Footy. KAYLA: Oh... I'm quickly going to the bathroom. She kisses him and walks to the bathroom. FLETCHER HOUSE BRAD: I swear, I'm going to kill him! SALLY: Brad, this is not helping! BRAD: He's going to hurt her, Sal, I know he is! I'm so scared for my daughter! JOHNNY AND KAYLA'S PLACE. Kayla is sitting on the bed, holding onto a pillow. A pregnancy test is lying on the desk. Johnn comes in. Kayla grabs the test and hides it behind the bed. She smiles at Johnny. KAYLA: Hey. JOHNNY: Hey. Is everything all right? KAYLA: Yeah... I just have a headache. I think I'm going to lie down for a while. JOHNNY: Okay. He walks out again and Kayla takes a deep breath. She looks at the test. It's positive. THE NEXT DAY IN THE DINER. Kayla is standing in the diner when Lucas and Cassie enter. LUCAS: Cas... get us a table so long please. CASSIE: Sure. He walks to Kayla. LUCAS: Hey. KAYLA: Hey... Thanks, Leah... She takes the muffin and smiles at Lucas. I can't stay, but I'll see you around. LUCAS: Kayla... KAYLA: Luc, I can't talk now, I'm meeting Johnny and I'm already late! LUCAS: Kayla, Johnny isn't what you think he is! He arranged for the guys to beat him up so you won't suspect anything. I heard them talking. He's only using you to get to your dad, you have to believe me. KAYLA: Whatever. LUCAS: Why would I make it up? You have to believe me Kayla. Get away from him. While you still can.
