Sweeney Todd. I'd see it for the curiosity factor, but it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen. It was all acted and directed well, but the premise was thin and the songs were pretty dull. Some interesting lyrics, but the pace and score where kind of all over the place. I didn't leave the cinema with anything stuck in my head, which is not a good sign for a musical. And it really could have done without the tacked on love story. It was never resolved anyway...
If not for the stellar cast and director, I'd struggle to give it 3 stars. Maybe 2 and a half. I personally feel like it was Tim Burton's excuse to get the darker characters of Harry Potter (Snape, Bellatrix and Peter Pettigrew) together and add Johnny Depp to the mix as the deranged, exiled, and murderous role of Sirius. As we all know he SHOULD have been.
I think I saw Anthony Stewart Head in a quick cameo, and I really enjoyed seeing Sasha Barren Cohen (is that right?) in a partially dramatic role. So that was fun. That little boy, brilliant as he was, could have so easily been Tom Felton... I know Tom's like 20 or something now, and doesn't really qualify as a little boy, but still... Malfoy... it would have rounded the cast off nicely
Ohhh Jason Isaacs... why wasn't he there? Darn it Burton, you must plan these things better!! Put your hand up for HP 7! DO IT NOW!!!!
