Extended Summary

Cash and Eden mess about in the sea before heading back to the beach. Eden wonders if Cash has to meet Cohen for another game of footy and Cash says he doesn’t have the energy and Cohen will be pestering people with questions about adoption. They talk about being excited about your future. Eden gets a text from her dad and admits they’ve been talking a lot and she’s invited him to the wedding. Cash calls it a big deal and they ponder how the wedding seems far away, wondering if they should bring it forward.

Outside the surf club, Dana chats to John as he checks over the buggy, noting you can’t get offended or hurt by something Irene says and have to be respectful and supportive. John wonders how you respectfully ask someone if they’ve forgotten your name. Dana asks what he thinks Irene would want and John thinks she’d want him to keep quiet. Dana says he’s a good friend no matter who remembers what.

Irene and Sonny arrive back at the beach house. Sonny looks at the photos and asks if they’re relatives. Irene says close enough and Sonny suggests they’re found family, with Irene saying they lived with her at various points. She says Sonny didn’t need to walk her home or stick around but he says he’s going to put the kettle on and is good at making himself at home, adding he was told that she’s a legend around there.

At Salt, Abigail tells Cash and Eden that she’s in charge since Mackenzie didn’t feel like coming in and is being snappy with everyone. Cash and Eden decide they could get married in three months. Abigail overhears and, while excited, notes it gives them zero time to prepare everything. She says she’ll get someone to cover then tap in. Eden comments that with Mali away, Abby’s at a loose end and a nightmare. They neck their drinks, deciding to be gone before she gets back.

Justin finds Leah looking over the contract in the Diner kitchen. She says she gave Irene every chance to change her mind. Alf overhears and congratulates her but Leah says she’d give it all back to change things. She goes to close the coffee cart. Justin needs to get back to work so Alf offers to keep an eye on her.

Irene tells Sonny that the Diner has been her reason for getting out of bed for twenty years. Sonny says a job isn’t a very exciting reason for getting out of bed and confirms he doesn’t work; he meets people, sees things and enjoys the fruits of life. He offers her suggestions on how to spend her time.

Alf arrives at the coffee cart and Leah says she’s turned the machine off. Alf says he’s there to talk and notes he got an impressive bait shop recently that’s given him a new lease of life, but needed to lose the old one first. Leah says he had a choice and Irene didn’t have to leave so quickly. Alf says Irene did what was right for her and it’s a whole new chapter for Leah.

At the Lyrik house, Cash and Eden are kissing on the sofa while commenting on the lack of wedding planning they’re doing. Abigail suddenly bursts in on them, saying she got someone to cover at work by claiming a wedding emergency. Despite Eden’s protests, she shoos Cash out of the house so they can look at wedding dress magazines.

Down on the beach, Dana asks John if he’s going to see Irene. John says he has a committee meeting and checks Dana is going to be there; she says she is, since Harper is working late. John wishes he could spend more time with her and Dana suggests changing the roster. Cash appears and asks to talk to John. Dana drives the buggy back to the club. Cash explains about bringing the wedding forward. John says he’ll check his diary. Meanwhile, Justin arrives back at the Diner. Leah says she keeps expecting to see Irene walk through the kitchen. She repeats what Alf said about it being a new beginning.

Dana arrives home to find Irene and Sonny salsa dancing in the living room. Sonny says there’s been three wins: Irene’s retired, Sonny’s her dance partner now and now Dana’s here. Irene goes to check on the potatoes and Sonny drags Dana in for a dance. Meanwhile, Eden is looking bored as Abigail goes over wedding dress details. Cash appears and says he didn’t think Abigail would still be there. Abigail realises she was meant to be back at work an hour ago and rushes off. Eden says all the dog ears in the magazines are Abby’s. John turns up and says he doesn’t have any spare time around the time they want to get married. Ignoring their attempts to talk him round, he says he’ll find them an alternative.

Next morning, Dana and Sonny are having breakfast on the balcony at Salt. Dana notes that being nice to her landlady is a good way to her heart. Cash and Eden come and sit at the next table. Dana wonders if there’s been any wedding problems, then notices their faces. They explain about the celebrant cancelling. At the Diner, John is on the phone to someone recommending Cash and Eden to them. He tells Leah he’s not taking what Irene said to heart. After he’s gone, Justin calls Leah over and says he was going past the hardware store and went in to get some samples for her to redecorate the place. Leah protests that changing the walls and furniture would be expensive. Justin stresses that it’s now all up to her.

Dana arrives home where Irene is planning a walk to the lighthouse. A distracted Dana comments about texting someone. After establishing it’s not Sonny, Irene realises it’s John. At the surf club, John gives Cash the details of the new celebrant. Irene briefly chats to Cash before going to see John and saying she knows she’s the reason he pulled out and she doesn’t want to be a burden. John tells her she called him Jett. Irene tries to deny it but John says he and Leah both heard and he’s going to spend his time with her so she doesn’t forget him.

Up in Salt, Abigail suggests to Eden that they go to Yabbie Creek and try on dresses for real, since Mackenzie could give them time off. She mentions that Mack called in sick again. Eden decides to go and check on her and Abigail rushes after her. Meanwhile, Justin is showing Leah colour options. Irene walks in and asks what’s going on, before saying things really do change quickly. Tearfully, she says it’s all Leah’s now and nothing to do with her.
