Extended Summary
Justin, Avalon and Kirby are excitedly coming back from the beach. Kirby is impressed that Justin managed to get Remi over the line while Avalon asks if he can be her manager. Justin says that with plans changing they can’t make a firm decision about the venue for the launch. Back at the house, Remi hides the drugs packet as Kirby and Avalon rush in to thank him. Remi is a bit snappy and says he’ll be out in five minutes. Kirby tells Avalon he gets like that when he’s stressed.
Down on the beach, Roo and David watch Cohen from a distance. David doesn’t know why Samantha made her decision. He is trying to track Cohen’s grandmother down in Canberra but it means dealing with the federal police, which is more red tape. He can’t offer any advice on what to tell Cohen and doesn’t have much hope for Samantha changing her mind. Meanwhile, Harper arrives back at the Diner with Archie. She says he was happy in day care but Marilyn says she should ask them to babysit first. Harper asks about Roo and David. Irene tells her about Samantha relinquishing custody.
David is on the phone at the station, asking someone about tracking down Cohen’s grandmother. Harper arrives but David can’t offer her much information. He says parents normally fight for custody and Samantha was protective of Cohen. He says with good behaviour she’ll get two years at most. Harper asks to speak to her, worried she’ll regret it. David says he’ll arrange it and also asks her to get information on family members. As she leaves, he looks at his family’s photo, focusing on Lacey.
Roo and Cohen arrive home. Roo says Cohen can take his clothes back to the shop and change them if he doesn’t like them. Cohen wants to show them to his mum. Roo only gives vague non-commital answers about when he can see her, when she’s in court and what she spoke to David about.
Kirby shows Avalon a song she wrote that didn’t work for her but could work as a duet. Avalon is impressed. Remi emerges and is annoyed that they have no solid plans, saying it means delaying both their albums and getting more studio time. Kirby isn’t sure when they’ll be ready to record and gets a text from Justin wanting to talk about venues. Remi sends her off, before telling Avalon it’s a great idea but he can’t do it. Avalon wonders if his mood is because of the drugs.
On the balcony at Salt, Justin shows Kirby a venue that’s by the harbour and has a rooftop stage. Kirby admits she’s changing her mind about the duet, given how stressed out Remi is over it. She suggests delaying it to after her launch and before Avalon’s. Justin mulls it over and agrees that it could give her a publicity push and Avalon’s album a teaser. He might also be able to get the favoured venue.
David calls round to see Roo; Cohen is upstairs. She says she hasn’t told him anything. David tells her about Harper going to see Samantha. Cohen appears and wonders if Roo has asked David when he can see his mum. Roo suggests David looks into it. At the Lyrik house, Remi is annoyed to catch Avalon tuning his guitar. He doesn’t know how she copes with taking drugs because he feels awful but admits he’s done a couple of tracks. Avalon says when he’s finished Kirby’s album he can get back to doing what he wants. Kirby arrives and says she has good news and bad news, which is actually the same news: She’s dropping the duet until later. Avalon accepts it but Remi is annoyed, telling her to make a decision and stick to it.
David is having a frustrating phone call trying to get information. Harper turns up and says Samantha’s spoken to a lawyer about making it official, convinced Cohen will have a better life without her, and didn’t give details of family members. She offers to tell Roo after seeing to Archie but David says he’ll do it. At the caravan park house, Marilyn has just finished making cupcakes. Roo gets the call from David saying Harper couldn’t change Samantha’s mind. She doesn’t know how she’s going to tell Cohen.
Roo takes Cohen for a walk on the beach and tells him that his mum will be in jail until the trial. However, she continues to be vague about how long she’s likely to be in there and when he can see her. Cohen worries that she’ll be lonely. Meanwhile, Justin calls round to get an update from Remi, saying he can’t organise a launch until he knows when the album will be finished. Remi says he can do it in three days if he’s left alone. He goes to his room and gets the rest of the drugs.
Kirby and Avalon are at Salt. Avalon is on board with pushing the duet back so they can build up their friendship online. She goes to get drinks as Justin arrives and tells Kirby what Remi said. He thinks this means they can get her first choice venue. Kirby admits she’s changed her mind again: She had the big city launch and it didn’t mean anything until Eden and Remi turned up. She wants to do it there, in her home, with her family. Justin says he’ll talk to Mack.
David has rejoined Roo and Cohen and tells Cohen that they won’t know anything until his mum’s been to court, Roo sends Cohen upstairs to read. David gets a contact from the feds but there’s no record of the family. He is hoping for the birth certificate. Roo goes up to check on Cohen. He wonders if he can call Samantha, then asks for a pen and paper to write her a letter.
Harper collects Archie from Irene at the Diner. She says Tane called asking for extra photos of Archie but she didn’t tell him about day care because it’s none of his business. David turns up and is introduced to Archie. He says they got Cohen’s birth certificate but the father’s name is blank. Irene and David talk about how fast children grow up.
Cohen comes downstairs and tells Roo that he wrote the letter but he doesn’t know the prison’s address. Roo says she’ll take care of it. She reads the letter, where Cohen says he’s staying with someone nice but misses her and hopes to see her soon.
