Extended Summary

John and Dana come up from the beach in the buggy. Dana is celebrating the fact that she’s going to be an auntie in twenty-four hours and has asked for time off to help Harper through the recovery. John says it’s a shame it’s not Tane doing it, but accepts it’s Harper’s choice. Mackenzie comes along and she and Dana awkwardly ask each other about Harper and Tane. Mackenzie suggests they don’t let it get weird between them, since they both knew there was something off about the engagement, and offers to get her a coffee. Dana looks pleadingly at John who says he’ll be glad of the peace.

At the Diner, Roo tells Alf and Marilyn that Eliza still isn’t answering. Marilyn suggests she would if something was wrong and Roo says she might be busy helping a woman in labour. Irene and Leah come along as Marilyn insists someone will get hurt if Roo continues to ignore it, and Roo shouts at her to stop. Leah says this isn’t helping. Roo agrees and leaves.

Tane and Levi continue to tend to Harper as Eliza looks on. Levi tells Harper to push on the next contraction as she insists she can’t give birth there. Levi asks how long ago Eliza called for the ambulance and she says she’s not sure. Tane calls them, telling them where they are, and learns no-one’s on their way. He hands the phone to Levi, who says it’s a high risk delivery and they need a neo-natal ambulance as well. Eliza comments on Harper making a new noise. Smiling slightly, she surreptitiously starts to film them.

At Salt, Mackenzie tells Dana she felt relief that the engagement was called off and says they were both doing it for the wrong reasons. Dana insists that only Tane was. Mackenzie says he was trying to do the right thing and Harper could have called it off. Dana says Harper loves Tane and convinced herself he cared. Mackenzie says he did and Dana accepts that but says he loves the baby, not Harper. Mackenzie says he dodged a bullet, insisting she means the marriage, not Harper. Dana says she understands why Harper doesn’t want Tane at the birth…which is news to Mackenzie.

Marilyn has filled in Leah and Irene. Leah tries to point out that Harper has Levi and Tane with her. Irene goes to phone Dana. Leah gets Marilyn to admit that Eliza’s a teenager and Harper’s the adult in the situation. Marilyn says she wants to help but Roo won’t admit there’s a problem. At the surf club, Alf says Roo didn’t go easy on Marilyn. Roo says Marilyn’s never gone easy on Eliza and can’t blame her for Harper going into labour. She says this might end badly for Harper and she doesn’t want Eliza to see that. Mackenzie comes downstairs and Alf asks if she’s heard from Levi.

Tane continues to support Harper, who is still protesting even as Levi helps her deliver the baby. Levi takes him away and everyone wonders why he isn’t crying. Levi taps Archie’s chest desperately until he finally coughs and then cries. He hands him over to Harper. Eliza puts her phone away. Later, Dana arrives at the hospital and rushes to the room where Harper and Tane are with Archie. She quickly coos over her new nephew, with them all agreeing he’s perfect.

Alf and Roo see Eliza and Levi arrive back at the surf club. Roo is eager to check that Eliza’s all right but Eliza is nonchalant about the whole thing and Levi notes she handled herself better than some adults would. Mackenzie comes over to congratulate Levi and suggests they go to the hospital. Eliza wants to go too but Roo insists they stay away for now.

At the hospital, a nurse checks over Archie and insists he’s fine before letting Tane have him back. Dana says she’ll let everyone know and confirms to Harper that Irene is top of her list. Dana passes Mackenzie and Levi and shows them in. Harper thanks Levi for what he did while Mackenzie tells Tane fatherhood looks good on him. Tane passes Archie to Harper.

At Salt, Eliza tells Roo that Levi was a bit rough trying to get the baby to breathe and wonders how he knew he wouldn’t hurt him. Roo again tries to check she’s okay but Eliza says it’s fine and tries to prove it by playing the video. Roo is concerned that she recorded the birth without permission and wonders what they were doing out there. Eliza says Harper wanted to get away from Tane.

Dana rejoins the others as Tane dubs Mackenzie “Auntie Mac”. Levi hastily says he’s Levi or Doctor Levi Fowler. Tana says after what he’s done they’ll call him whatever he wants. Harper decides to go and have a shower, but suddenly faints in Levi’s arms; he realises she’s haemorrhaging. Later, Levi stops Dana accompanying Harper to surgery, explaining to the others that the planned caesarean was intended to avoid this. Dana suggests it’s good Tane got to be there at the birth and he says he’ll celebrate when he knows Harper’s all right.

Alf, Roo and Eliza are eating at Salt. Eliza wonders what would have happened if Levi had had to do a caesarean out there. Roo says Eliza shouldn’t have filmed an emergency and a private moment without permission and wants her to delete it. Eliza wants to go and show it to Harper but Alf says she’ll be working for him tomorrow and Roo says Archie needs to bond with his parents.

Mackenzie apologises to Dana for what she said about Harper while Dana notes it sounded like Harper needed Tane there. Tane worries that they haven’t heard anything and Levi says it can take a while. Tane and Dana go to find out news, leaving Levi holding Archie. Mackenzie takes a photo of them. When the others return, they settle down to wait.

Next morning, Levi heads off to start his shift, leaving Mackenzie behind. Harper is back and wakes up. Tane asks her what she needs and she tells him she needs him to leave. Although disappointed, Tane accepts it, telling Archie he’ll see him soon. He heads home and sits on his bed. Mackenzie asks Harper not to do this but Harper says it’s none of her business. Tane stares at the photo of him and his family and at the ultrasound photo.
