Extended Summary
Dean and Willow run into each other outside the Diner. Willow wonders if Bella’s up in the flat and Dean indicates she’s been avoiding the place since Willow came back. He says Amber and Jai are moving back next week and he’s been talking to Jai on the phone every day. Meanwhile, Justin and Leah arrive back at the Morgan house and take a moment to bask in the quiet of no babies or doctors, pondering that this is what it will be like to have their own place. They note they got together in that house but will make memories in the new place… in every room… so they might need four or five bedrooms…
Susie approaches John at the surf club. John notes he didn’t mean to hurt Alf but Susie dismisses the idea, saying some people are just sore losers. Willow and Dean arrive and Willow congratulates Dean on keeping the board shop going. Dean notes he has bills and rent to pay now. Willow considers hanging out with Jasmine and asks John if he’s seen her. At that moment, Jasmine and Lewis are walking by the beach. Lewis says he didn’t see the kiss coming and Jasmine says she didn’t know she was going to do it: She’s not sure what it means but she knows she liked it. They hold hands.
Alf and Roo have arrived back at the caravan park, with Roo wondering why Alf hasn’t stayed for the count. Alf says he has things to do there and Roo points out that seems to involve raking leaves. Marilyn appears and wonders if it’s all over. She is stunned to realise Alf thinks John might win. Meanwhile, Leah and Justin are in bed together. They reflect on how this will be what it’s like when they have their own place, although they note they’ll have to go out and work to pay for it. Leah decides she has to go back to work and Justin says he’ll walk with her.
Outside the surf club, Dean puts a board shop sign in front of John’s campaign material. Willow wonders if he was entitled to vote as a business owner at the surf club. Dean thinks John would have told him if he was. Amber and Jai suddenly appear with Amber noting they came down early. Dean lifts Jai up, both of them delighted to see each other. Later, the four of them are sat at Salt. John comes up, welcoming Amber and Jai back. They discuss the election and John notes Amber’s partly responsible. He takes a flyer back from Dean, saying he can reuse it. Amber is amused when John gets a call from Susie and she learns it’s his new girlfriend. Dean and Jai go to order food. Willow sees Amber watching them and tries to get Amber to admit she was right.
At the Diner, Marilyn complains to Irene about John’s recent behaviour, standing against Alf and moving Susie in. Irene admits she knew about Susie. Meanwhile, Jasmine and Lewis arrive back at the surf club. Jasmine asks what Lewis is going to do now. Lewis says that’s up to her but Jasmine says she actually meant about him and Christian and whether he’s still going to resign. Lewis notes he got a message from Tori about her and Christian going away so will have time to think about it. He gives Jasmine a quick kiss goodbye. Willow appears moments later and asks Jasmine what’s going on.
Willow follows Jasmine into the gym. Although Willow doesn’t want to stay on as manager, she agrees to help out, then asks what’s really going on. Jasmine admits that her friend Lewis might be more than a friend: They kissed and it didn’t feel bad. Willow comments that she’s freaking out because she’s not freaking out. Jasmine notes it feels like fate that they ran into each other again. Meanwhile, Roo tries to convince Alf to go back for the count, saying people supported him. Alf says John played dirty: They’ve had their differences but he never thought a mate would do this to him.
Irene gives Dean a large takeaway order and he explains that Jai’s around. Leah and Justin arrive back as Irene gets a text from Roo; she tells them and Marilyn that John’s won the election. Leah and Marilyn are both sorry for Alf. Marilyn decides to go and check on him while Leah and Justin wonder what the surf club will be like now. Back at the venue, a crowd including Susie congratulate John while Alf and Roo look on. Alf goes over, shaking John’s hand and congratulating him. John starts to say it was never personal but Susie interrupts by leading calls for him to make a speech. John stands on the stairs with Susie, saying he has big shoes to fill but they all think he’s up to it and you can’t fight progress: He intends to keep his promises and bring the club into the future. Alf and Roo quietly leave during the speech.
Willow has sorted out the supply orders and rosters, and accepts Jasmine’s offer of a temp job. Lewis comes in and Jasmine introduces him and Willow to each other. Willow leaves the “happy couple” to it. Lewis suggests he and Jasmine go out to dinner, on a real date. Jasmine agrees but is slightly thrown that Lewis means now, saying she’ll meet him outside. She goes to get her bag and takes off her wedding rings. Meanwhile, outside the caravan park house, Roo and Marilyn try to get Alf to talk. Marilyn says she can’t believe John, while Roo thinks it was more Susie. Alf says it doesn’t matter: The surf club chose Palmer, and he’s tempted to walk away from them entirely. Roo says he still has friends there but Alf thinks this has shown how much they’re worth. He says John was right that you can’t fight progress.
John and Susie are having a toast on the Salt balcony, with Susie noting John’s in charge of it all now. Marilyn joins them and asks to talk to John in private but Susie says she can say anything in front of her. Marilyn says she’s been watching John’s “silly” campaign and doesn’t like what he’s done to Alf, since he should respect him. Susie thinks Marilyn should respect John and he could have been president earlier with her support. Marilyn says it’s none of Susie’s business and Susie says it’s none of Marilyn’s. John supports Susie, and Marilyn leaves. Susie tells John not to let her ruin it. Later, Alf is packing up his things in the office, leaving behind a desk marker that says “President”. He gets a call from someone (probably Roo or Martha) and says he’s on his way home, before quietly walking out.
Dean and Jai are throwing a ball about in the flat. Amber tries to tell them not to do it inside or they’ll break something but Dean says it’s all junk anyway and Jai gives Amber the same winning smile she recalls Dean giving her. Amber joins Willow on the balcony as Dean and Jai manage to hit a container of cutlery without damaging it. She agrees things are going well. Later, Jai is asleep on the couch. Amber recalls Dean falling asleep at parties and Dean notes he always regretted it, wondering if they should draw on him. Amber wants to head back but Dean suggests they stay the night there, with Amber and Jai taking his room, and he helps sort out school in the morning. Amber says he can carry Jai to bed and Dean does so, smiling contentedly.
