Extended Summary

Bella is on the phone outside the Diner, leaving a message for Dean telling him they’ve got clearance to see Colby and saying she needs him. She then calls Mackenzie and asks if she’s seen Dean. Angelo has come along during the conversation and offers to help find Dean. Bella tells him to bite her. At the jail, Colby notes he was expecting Bella to come, noting he broke his word never to leave her, and asks Taylor why she’s there. Taylor notices he has a cut lip and offers to talk to someone about it but Colby tells her not to. He again wonders why she’s there and Taylor says she’s talking to Angelo again. Colby goes to get a drink.

Alf and Roo encounter Bella outside the bait shop and she explains she’s going to see Colby. They discuss Dean’s absence, with Alf noting he’s just left the board shop. Roo offers to give Bella a lift but she declines. Alf quietly tells Roo that he’ll keep an eye on her. He then gets a text from Martha asking him to meet her at the house. Alf goes there, where they make brief small talk about her drive and Ryder, before Alf asks for some answers. Martha tells him about Kieran, saying she didn’t think she’d see him again but he got in touch recently and she told him she remarried. After a few moments of silence, Alf somewhat distantly says he’s glad she had the chance to tell Kieran and wishes she’d told him.

At the surf club, Leah buys herself a drink before checking that Justin is okay sitting on his own while she goes to the gym with Roo. Justin is quite happy to let Tori and Christian have the house to themselves while he helps Ziggy by doing the garage accounts. He notes that hopefully she won’t be looking after the garage on her own for much longer. Back at the caravan park house, Alf is staring out the window and Martha asks him to talk to her. Alf asks if she would have told him if Kieran hadn’t got in touch. Martha’s silence suggests she wouldn’t. Alf tells her to think about how she’s going to break this to Roo.

Colby tells Taylor that he’s going to be in there for twenty-five years and she should pursue something with Angelo if there’s a chance. Taylor leaves, passing Bella, who hugs Colby. Officer Martinez reminds them there’s no contact. Colby asks Bella to tell him everything. Later, Bella asks about the cut and Colby says it was a welcome and the other prisoners don’t know who he is. He says Taylor was there to say goodbye. Bella says Willow split and Dean’s busy with the board shop and surf lessons. Colby quickly realises she’s lying and Bella admits she hasn’t seen Dean in days.

Angelo approaches Alf outside the bait shop and wonders how he’s feeling about Colby. Alf says Angelo was right about him and sometimes you don’t know about people. Angelo asks if he thinks you can leave mistakes behind. Alf says he’d have said yes this morning but now he doesn’t seem so sure. Taylor appears and tells Angelo she visited Colby to say goodbye. However, she isn’t keen to talk to Angelo, telling him she has a client at the gym. Back at the jail, Colby is unhappy about Dean disappearing but Bella says sometimes family screw up. She asks him about appealing his sentence but he thinks it’s done. He notes he’s glad Bella’s got Nikau and she admits he’s visiting his mum but says his family’s been great and she’s got Mackenzie and Irene.

Justin sees Martha come into the surf club and Martha explains she’s looking for Roo. A moment later, Roo and Leah emerge from the gym and Martha tells Roo they need to speak to each other. Later, back at the house, Martha has filled Roo in on the fact she has a half-brother. Roo is shocked and Martha explains her relationship with him is complicated, adding that it’s not why she kept the house in Merimbula and Kieran’s father isn’t on the scene anymore. Roo says they need to discuss it as a family.

Bella is assuring Colby that she’s fine and that Dean will come back. Martinez calls out that visiting time’s over. Colby asks for five more minutes but Martinez is insistent and leads him away. Colby says he needs to make a phone call. Later, Bella finds Taylor outside the surf club and tells her they need to help Colby. Taylor says the guards will look after him but Bella doesn’t think she believes that. Bella suggests hiring a lawyer and telling a magazine Colby’s side of the story. Taylor asks if that’s what Colby wants, saying the choice has to be his.

Angelo is waiting in Salt as Taylor joins him. He offers her a drink but she says she needs some fresh air. Angelo wonders if she wants him to wait there but Taylor asks him to walk with her. At the prison, Colby is leaving a phone message for Dean, saying he promised to be there for Bella and calling him a coward. He ends up banging the phone against the wall in anger.

Alf and Roo briefly chat about Martha’s news before joining her in the front room. Martha explains that Kieran wants to meet them but she’s made it clear that he can only do that if they agree. She notes Kieran has serious issues. Roo says they need to talk that over. At that moment however, a man that we can probably assume is Kieran arrives at the Diner and tells Marilyn he’s looking for the Stewarts.
