Extended Summary

Ziggy is on the balcony at Salt. Angelo joins her and asks if anything has occurred to her. Ziggy says it hasn’t and Angelo says she’s got his number if she thinks of anything. Ziggy quickly leaves. At a nearby table, Tori chats to Christian about regional medicine and thanks him for helping Justin. Christian asks about her and she says there’s not really anything interesting about her aside from being a doctor. Downstairs, Ziggy runs into Willow who guesses she’s spoken to Dean. Ziggy says it turned into something of an argument and when she tried to go round to see him Amber and Jai were there. Willow notes Amber’s not there now because she texted inviting her clubbing.

Dean is trying to cool Jai with a cloth on his forehead and leaving phone messages for Amber. When he hears a knock on the door, he thinks it’s her but it’s Ziggy. Dean convinces her to stay, explaining the situation: He’s not sure if he should take Jai to hospital or wait it out. Ziggy suggests Amber can’t hear her phone at the club. Back at Salt, Tori pours the remainder of the wine into Christian’s glass, saying she needs a clear head for looking after Grace. Christian asks if his dad’s around. Tori says he passed away, then explains that they weren’t together and never were and how she never met the right person to have children with so asked a friend to donate for IVF. Christian says it was a bold choice and Tori says it was the right one. She gets a call from Ziggy and says she has to go. Christian understands, saying he has sick friends calling him as well.

Jai has been moved to the bedroom where Tori examines inside his ear and takes his temperature. She takes Dean and Ziggy aside and explains he has a middle ear infection. Dean knows nothing about allergies or medical history. Tori says he’s dehydrated and needs a course of antibiotics and says she’ll meet them at the hospital. At the Diner, John is complaining to Alf about Dean keeping the board shop closed and mentions his break-up with Ziggy. Angelo comes in during the rant and asks Leah for an espresso. He asks John what the set-up is with Dean, Colby and Bella. After making a joke about Mangrove River inbreeding, John confirms they’re not related. Both of them ponder a River Boy being friends with a police officer and Leah chimes in that they’ve had a hard time. John notes that they’re like brothers and Dean is loyal to the others. Alf is sceptical about Angelo calling it a “catch-up” and points out to John that Dean might not like him talking to the police about him.

Tori, Ziggy, Dean and Jai all arrive at the emergency department of the hospital and Tori starts giving instructions to the nurses. Dean tells Ziggy she can go but Ziggy decides to stay and see them settled. Dean tries to keep Jai calm. Next morning, Ziggy is at the surf club and explains to John about how Dean won’t be opening up because of Jai being in hospital. John understands; when he asks about Amber, Ziggy diplomatically says she had the night off. Ziggy runs into Willow and asks if she heard from Amber again. She explains about Jai being in hospital and Dean not being able to get hold of her.

Jai wakes up and announces to Dean that he’s hungry. Tori comes in, closely followed by Ziggy and Willow. She notes parenting can be a roller-coaster but says Jai can go once the nurse has checked him over. Dean and Willow wonder what happened to Amber. At that moment, Amber is in bed with a guy at the motel. She goes to retrieve her clothes and phone and finds several missed calls from Dean and a text saying they’ve gone to hospital. Panicking, she yells at her companion to wake up because she needs a lift.

Justin is thanking staff including Tori and Christian as he is discharged. Christian says he’ll need a follow-up in six weeks so no driving or heavy lifting until then. Justin and Leah leave. Tori and Christian are left alone and he asks her about her friend. They banter about Tori saving people from infections, which ends with Tori knocking a cup on the floor and getting embarrassed. At the Diner, Alf watches Marilyn cooing over Grace. Justin and Leah turn up and Justin explains his situation. He says he got lucky with Christian.

Angelo is outside the Diner and sees Dean, Ziggy, Willow and Jai arriving back. Moments later, Amber is dropped off by the guy she was with and cheerily greets Jai. Willow takes Jai to look at the boats while Dean criticises Amber for her behaviour. Amber thinks he overreacted. Dean says the head of emergency didn’t think so and refuses to let her take Jai until she’s sobered up. He and Ziggy take Jai up to the flat and send him to his room. Dean doesn’t want Amber to get away with what she’s done but Ziggy thinks the serve is enough; Amber’s never made a secret of her partying and Dean needs to get along with her for Jai’s sake. Jai reappears and Dean notes he’s got his energy back.

Tori has her head down as she walks around the hospital desk and bumps into Christian, dropping her papers. She complains about him always being around and he points out he has a head trauma patient to see in the room behind her. Tori babbles a bit before moving off. Later, she is in a lift when Christian gets in it with her. She says she’s had a hard time coping with Justin and Grace. Christian cuts her off and kisses her, saying now they’re one-all.

Willow and Amber are walking near the beach. Amber doesn’t think one night makes Dean father of the year and says if Jai had any allergies she’d have said when she dropped him off. Willow says he was worried and asks Amber about what she was doing. Amber says she doesn’t get many nights to herself and has been looking after Jai on her own for five years. Willow says that was her choice. Amber somewhat stiffly says she stuffed up. Meanwhile, Dean, Ziggy and Jai are at the surf club. Dean notes there’s one chip left. Ziggy distracts Dean so Jai can take it, then claim with his mouth still full that Ziggy took it. John takes Jai for a gelato. Ziggy tells Dean she wishes they could go back to before she knew about Ross and also mentions Angelo hassling her. She leaves, briefly encountering Willow and insisting there’s nothing she can do about Dean. Amber apologises to Dean and is impressed when he gives her details of Jai’s medication. Amber and Jai leave and Dean goes to open the board shop. Angelo, who has been watching from the stairs, insists on speaking to him first.

Up in Salt, Angelo tells Dean that he thinks they can help each other. He notes Dean is always putting out people’s fires and asks why he’s protecting Colby. Dean feigns ignorance but Angelo says he knows Colby killed Ross and is going to prove it, so Dean needs to pick a side.
