Extended Summary
Nikau and Bella go to her room, where they kiss and lie down on the bed. However, as Nikau moves on top of her, Bella looks increasingly uncomfortable, eventually panicking and shouting at him to get off. Nikau immediately complies and Bella tells him to get out, locking her bedroom door after him and yelling at him to go as he tries to ask if she’s all right. Nikau exits the flat, calling Ryder and saying he needs to talk to him. He bumps into Gemma, who cheerily asks if he was visiting his friend. Nikau gives a tense response, especially when Gemma warns him against upsetting the local cop’s sister, and hurries away. Up in the flat, Bella is in tears and wipes her face with tissue, removing the make-up.
Nikau hammers on Ari’s caravan door. Ryder appears and says he’s probably out. Nikau angrily asks why Ryder didn’t reply to his message. He says he and Bella were at his flat when she freaked out and he needs Ryder to find out if she’s okay. The two of them head back to the flat. Bella refuses to come out of her room, despite Ryder saying he needs to see her and make sure she’s okay. He decides to call Colby. Nikau is aghast that he’s calling the police, despite Ryder pointing out that he’s Bella’s brother, and runs off.
Tori and Jasmine come into the Diner with Grace. Jasmine says she’s not going to have cake, prompting Tori to tell Gemma that means Jasmine will have the strawberry torte. Maggie gushes over Grace, saying these days don’t last long and noting that before long they’re disappearing for days and not answering texts. She goes over to the table where Ben’s sitting but he immediately says he has to get back to work, even though he’s been there since the crack of dawn. Maggie says she hasn’t seen Ziggy in days. Ben says Ziggy chooses her own company, like they did at her age. Meanwhile, Colby and Willow have joined Ryder at the flat. Colby knocks on the bedroom door but Bella isn’t even responding now so he forces it down. Bella screams at him to get out: There is blood on the tissue and on the sheets, along with a discarded pair of scissors, and she has cuts on her arm. Colby manages to lead Bella away.
Colby and Willow take Bella to the hospital where Tori initially assumes Colby has overdone it with his leg. Colby points out Bella’s cuts and Tori has Jasmine take her to dress them, saying they also need to look at Colby’s leg. Colby says Bella has never done anything like this before and with her smiling again and going to TAFE he thought she was all right. At the caravan park, Nikau writes a note for Ari. He asks a passing John if he’s seen him and John says he’s not his mother. Ryder appears and angrily demands to know what Nikau did to Bella. Nikau insists he did nothing but Ryder says he’s put her in hospital. John stops them scuffling and sends Nikau on his way. He asks Ryder what’s going on.
Tori is cleaning Bella up while Willow sits with her. Bella admits she tried to sleep with Nikau and stresses he didn’t do anything wrong. Willow is surprised things moved that quickly and feels she gave her bad advice. Bella thinks she’s damaged; she wanted it but it felt like she was back with Tommy. She says she felt like she wanted to explode. Back at the caravan park, Ryder berates himself for not breaking the door down like Colby did but John says he did the right thing and got help. Ryder is worried about Bella and wonders how he can be a good friend to her.
Jasmine is dressing Colby’s leg; he suggests she’s enjoying it and she says she only enjoys it with people she doesn’t like. He refuses to let her put the moon boot back on and berates himself for some of his choices with Bella, such as letting her stop counselling. Jasmine suggests she actually was doing okay and this is just a setback. Colby admits he doesn’t know what he’s going to do. Later, Colby runs into Willow who says Jasmine is with Bella. He asks what’s going on. Willow tells him not to overreact and admits Bella asked her advice about sex but she didn’t realise how fast she was going to take it. Colby thinks Nikau must have pressured her, despite Willow trying to convince her otherwise. Tori appears and stops them arguing, saying they need to work out what to do and she’s going to call Bella’s counsellor. Colby says Bella stopped seeing her weeks ago but Tori wants to call her anyway.
Maggie runs into Ben at the Diner; Maggie is buying dinner but Ben has already ordered a takeaway from Gemma and is going to eat at the shop. Maggie is upset that they’re not even eating together now and says they’ll get the paternity results soon. Ben says that’s not the most important thing. Nikau arrives and tells Gemma he’s changed his mind and wants to leave Summer Bay. Gemma insists on taking him somewhere to talk first. Back at the hospital, Tori rejoins Colby and Willow. She says it’s clear the counselling hasn’t worked and that things have gone too far for Bella to be treated as an outpatient, since this is the second time she’s self-harmed. Colby tries to suggest he can bring her in every day but Tori says she needs full-time intensive psychiatric treatment.
Near the beach, Nikau continues to want to get away, saying if Gemma doesn’t come with him he’ll go and live with Tane in the city. Gemma says that’s not happening and demands an explanation. Nikau admits things nearly happened with Bella and then she freaked out. He is convinced Colby will go after him with the police. Gemma says running will make him look guilty and he needs to go to the hospital: He likes Bella enough to want to sleep with her and he likes her enough to make sure she’s all right. They head to the hospital where they come face-to-face with Colby and Willow. After a tense few seconds, Colby says he knows Nikau didn’t do anything wrong but doesn’t think it’s a good idea for him to see Bella. Gemma says it’s his call. Nikau asks Colby to let Bella know that he was there and that he hopes she’s okay.
John and Ryder arrive at the Diner flat with cleaning equipment. John says he’ll get some clean sheets as Ryder starts stripping the bed and removing the scissors and tissue. Back at the hospital, Colby and Willow go to see Bella. She says she’ll stop causing trouble but Colby admits she’s not going to be able to go home for a while. Bella says she won’t be able to get better without him. Colby says he’s beginning to think the opposite: He doesn’t want to send her away but they’ve got no choice.
