Extended Summary

Colby drags Willow back into the surf club, with Bella and Alex following, asking for an explanation and why Bella knew and not him. He heads into the gym; Willow apologises to Alex before following him, leaving Alex with Bella. Bella cheerily notes they’re always like this. Alex expresses surprise that Bella never told Colby. Bella says she doesn’t blab, comparing it to Alex and patient confidentiality. In the gym, Colby tries to get his head round things, asking if Willow and Alex are actually a thing. When she confirms they are, Colby says it’s fantastic and wonders if she thought he’d have a problem. Willow says it was new and she didn’t want him to think of her differently. Colby is happy for her and asks if Dean knows, trying to get Willow to let him tell him or at least be there when she does. Willow shows him out.

Colby joins Bella and Alex and sends the latter in to see Willow, assuring her everything’s okay and welcoming her to the family. As he and Bella chat, Mackenzie comes downstairs and notes she thought they’d gone: Willow left her keys behind. Colby takes them and Mackenzie heads back upstairs, with Colby warning her not to drive. Bella tells Colby they should give Willow the keys and go home. Back at the farm, Dean and Ziggy are in bed together. Dean assures Ziggy that, while he didn’t want her to go, he’s sorry she’s disappointed. He wonders what she’d have done if she had gotten the job. Ziggy says she’d have gone with heart, indicating that means him. Dean says it seemed like her heart was at the race track but Ziggy insists she’d have turned the job down.

Bella is dressed for bed and finds Colby in the living area. She tries to get him to watch a movie with her but he thinks she should go to bed since they have a meeting with Maggie first thing. She asks him about Willow and Alex and he notes it’s good to find someone. Bella says it has to be the right someone, making it clear she thinks he should stay away from Mackenzie. Colby decides to go to bed; Bella tells him to go straight to sleep and not stay awake thinking about “dumb people”. Despite this, he just sits on the end of the bed. Back at Salt, Mackenzie shows her staff out then locks up with herself inside and pours herself another drink, looking round at the empty bar.

Next morning, Ben and Maggie find Ziggy and Dean in a good mood. They realise she’s received news about the job and initially assume she’s got it. She tells them she didn’t, but it’s a blessing in disguise. They don’t seem entirely convinced. Meanwhile, John and Willow are looking through the locked gate at the Salt entrance: The staff are waiting downstairs, Mackenzie’s car is outside and she’s usually the first one there. John is reluctant to use the master key and gets Willow to call Mac. When they hear the phone inside, John opens the gate and they find Mackenzie asleep on a couch, with an empty bottle. She claims she fell asleep working on the accounts. John starts giving a monologue about how they’ve all done it and Willow sends him to get the staff before asking Mac if it was to do with Colby. Alex arrives and Mackenzie downplays the incident, using the arrival of her staff as an excuse to end the conversation.

Willow and Alex head to the gym, both not entirely convinced by Mackenzie’s explanations. Alex comments on how Colby seemed okay with their news and accepts Willow’s assurance that he won’t tell anyone. Alex asks about telling Dean and Willow says that he’s different, awkwardly explaining that she hasn’t slept with Colby. Alex understands she has history. Down on the beach, Dean has finished a surf with Ziggy. Ben is nearby and suggests her performance was down to the new board, before trying to quiz her about whether she’s really okay not getting the job. Mackenzie arrives and talks to Dean in private. He says she owes him an apology for dropping him in it with Ziggy. Mackenzie says she’s sorry, but also needs a favour.

Bella and Colby meet Maggie at the Diner. Bella says she doesn’t want to repeat, she wants to plough ahead and do Year 12. Maggie says there’s no doubt she can do the work, it’s her personal problems that are the issue. Bella says she just wants to pass and make Colby proud, and Maggie agrees to give her help. Meanwhile, Dean and Mackenzie are walking as Mackenzie rants about how she doesn’t feel herself when Colby’s around and ends up doing horrible stuff. The favour she wants to ask is for Dean to keep Colby away from Salt. Dean reminds her he said he didn’t want to be caught in the middle but Mackenzie protests that she’s his sister and that it’s the only way for her to get Colby out of her system. Dean suggests that it’s only a problem because Mackenzie still has feelings for Colby but she says that’s not the issue.

Ziggy is helping Ben at the surf club. She is somewhat down that she wasn’t good enough for the job. Mackenzie comes in and Ziggy asks what happened to Dean. Mackenzie says she left him at his and apologises for what she said last night, assuring her that Dean loves her. Soon after, Ziggy bumps into Maggie outside and asks to borrow her phone charger. She notes she’s somewhat bored without so many things to do and taking time to adjust to life in the Bay again, but insists she wouldn’t have taken the job. After Maggie has gone, Ziggy gets a call from Kurt. She asks what happened to Jason and excitedly says of course she’ll take the job. It’s only after she’s hung up that she realises what just happened.

Bella and Colby arrive back at the flat to find Dean there wanting to talk. Colby checks whether or not he’s spoken to Willow and sends Bella to her room. Bella says she’ll listen in, and does just that. Dean tells Colby what Mackenzie said about him staying away from Salt. He also believes that they still have feelings for each other. Although not happy, Colby agrees not to go there. Soon after, Bella finds Colby leaving the flat. He initially refuses to let her go with him but, when she asks for painkillers and says she has stress headaches, he decides to stay.

Colby summons Willow and Alex to the flat to look at Bella, who says she’s sore and tired like before. Alex notes the wound on her hand is healing but Bella says it hurts when Alex checks her glands. At the caravan park, Ziggy finds Dean and briefly chats about him seeing Mac. Dean can sense something is wrong but Ziggy says she’s just bored and wanted to spend time with him. They hug and Ziggy looks guilty.
