Extended Summary

John has crashed into the trees. He has a cut on his head and also seems to have hurt his shoulder. He gets out of the car and looks for his phone without success. The road is empty and he learns against the car, dizzy. At the beach house, Bella is in conversation with Tommy, telling him she told Colby she’s not moving in with him. Tommy tells her she did the right thing. Bella feels bad that Colby was upset but Tommy indicates she has to do what’s best for her and that things are working where she is. They are soon exchanging banter.

Willow encounters Colby on the beach and wonders why he isn’t picking up Bella. Colby explains that she changed her mind and wouldn’t talk to him about it. Willow is confused since last time she spoke to Bella she was up for it. Back at the beach house, Bella continues to banter with Tommy. Willow turns up with Colby, both curious about her reasons for staying. Bella says things might get messed up if she and Colby live together and things are better the way they are. Colby suggests they at least have lunch together and to text him. After he’s gone, Willow questions Bella about what changed. Bella says she got the good mark and a friend suggested it might be too soon.

Marilyn and Raffy arrive at the Diner and are greeted by Justin. Raffy asks about Tori and Justin says Mason’s taken her to hospital for a check-up. Marilyn asks about Raffy starting the trial tomorrow and is told she just needs to have a few tests and then take a pill. Justin offers to hold her hand and Raffy quips that he’s missing Leah. Marilyn gets a call from Jett saying John didn’t turn up, then tries to ring John without success. Justin offers to go look for him. John hears Justin’s car coming and flags him down, saying Justin needs to take him back to town and Jett’s waiting for him. He seems confused, unable to fully explain what happened to him. When he collapses, talking gibberish, Justin says he’s taking him to hospital.

Raffy exits the Diner, attempting to phone someone (probably Ryder) and saying she hopes them not answering means they’re working on the assignment. Willow approaches, asking if she said anything to Bella and explaining about her changing her mind about moving. Raffy says last time she spoke to Bella she was keen on the idea. Colby passes them in a hurry and Willow reminds him to keep things calm. Raffy gets a call from Marilyn. She heads into the Diner where Marilyn tells her and Roo about Justin finding John and the accident. She leaves them to keep an eye on things while she goes to the hospital.

At Salt, Colby and Bella have a slightly stilted conversation before Bella says it’s because of school that she’s staying away. Colby says he spoke to Roo and Maggie and is happy to do whatever she wants although Bella says what she wants is for things to stay as they are. They start to relax and joke a bit. After they’ve finished eating, Bella suggests they hang out more often. Colby invites her to play pool but she says she has schoolwork. She passes Willow as she leaves. Colby says Bella seems happy and he can’t force her to move home; he’ll check with Irene but can’t blame Bella for wanting to concentrate on school.

Roo and Raffy are running the Diner; Raffy ignores a call from Ryder. Roo answers one from Marilyn and tells Raffy that John has a concussion but is being allowed home. Raffy isn’t reassured, knowing the dangers of head injuries. Justin and Marilyn take John home but he isn’t keen to rest, wanting to retrieve the car. Marilyn says he might have convinced the doctor to let him go but she knows better. Justin says he’ll go and get the car and also look for John’s phone. Marilyn asks John what happened. He recalls driving and then waking up to find he’d crashed into the tree; Marilyn realises he fell asleep at the wheel. However, John’s main priority is borrowing her phone to call Jett.

Raffy runs into Bella outside the Diner and jovially blames her for dropping her in it with Willow. Bella says it was another friend but Raffy thinks she just said that to get out of trouble, thinking she doesn’t have any friends except her and Ryder. Bella says if Raffy comes with her to Irene’s she can meet him. When they arrive at the beach house, they find Colby at the back door. Bella reminds him she said no pressure but Colby just wanted to give her the laptop. He tells her she can hang out with him any time.

Justin arrives back at the Palmer house and Marilyn tells him John’s in the shower. Justin says he can get the car back by the afternoon so John can visit Jett. Marilyn however asks him to hold onto it for a bit. John joins them; Justin gives him his phone but says that with other jobs and waiting for parts it’ll take him a week to fix the car. John says he’ll take it to Yabbie Creek but changes his tune when Justin says he’ll do it on the house. Later, John asks Marilyn if he can go on the bus to see Jett. Marilyn says he can, but if he does she’ll change the locks. She says he isn’t well and if he doesn’t want to look for somewhere else to live, he should park himself on the sofa. After she’s gone, John clutches his head in pain.

Willow arrives home to find Bella and Raffy there. She asks why Bella doesn’t want to live with Colby when he just got her a laptop. Bella says she’s not moving back in just to get stuff. Willow tries to question her further but Bella asks her to drop it. After Willow’s gone upstairs, Raffy asks about Bella’s friend. Bella types a message to Tommy, who confirms he’s there. Raffy looks worried. Later, Raffy has to stop Bella telling Tommy her name as she mentions there’s a friend there. Raffy is surprised Bella spoke to Tommy about Colby and asks if he told her not to move. Bella says he just listens to her. Raffy looks even more worried.

Marilyn tries to convince John to eat and tells him she’s spoken to Chaplain Wilson, who’s arranged another appointment for Jett and some transport. She also says Jett is becoming more independent arranging things himself. John clutches his head in pain but is still worried about Jett. Marilyn says he needs to go to hospital. Meanwhile, Raffy watches as Bella has rather personal banter with Tommy and closes the laptop. She says Bella knows nothing about Tommy: How old he is, what he looks like, where he goes to school. She says sharing personal information online is stranger danger and perhaps no-one’s warned Bella. Bella insists Tommy has proved himself and she’s not an idiot. She sends Raffy away and keeps typing.
