Extended Summary
Robbo jumps in his truck and speeds after Kat and Novak. The pair are travelling in the police car, with Kat driving and Novak concealed in the back. They pass a police car containing McCarthy and Corelli, which flashes its lights at them; Novak instructs Kat to reciprocate. McCarthy is suspicious anyway, since he knows Kat isn’t meant to be working, but before he can give much thought to it they see Robbo speeding in the other direction and pull him over. Robbo tells them Novak has Kat. McCarthy has Corelli take his keys off him and tells him to stay there while they pursue. Meanwhile, Hunter and Olivia have just finished a swim down on the beach. Olivia asks Hunter about his hangover as Hunter checks on the ring. Olivia suggests they do brunch as Mason joins them and gets an invite. Olivia goes to have a shower and Hunter shows Mason the ring.
Ben, Maggie and Coco are round the table at the farm house when Diana surfaces. She initially claims not to be hungry when Ben offer her some eggs, then says that she’ll eat it because he made the effort. Ben and Maggie are somewhat perplexed by her constant moping and try and encourage her to get out of the house. Ben suggests they have lunch out and Coco’s enthusiasm manages to win Diana over. Ben then manages to get out of it himself by suggesting the three of them will wants to have a girls’ talk. They head to the Diner where Maggie tries to suggest Diana do a cookery or pottery class in Yabbie Creek. Coco suggests she start dating again but the idea doesn’t seem to enthuse Diana much and she goes outside.
Robbo follows McCarthy into the police station, furious that he managed to lose Kat and Novak’s vehicle. McCarthy says Corelli is searching the area and checks that Murray, who is back on duty, is okay. Robbo blames McCarthy for forcing Kat to testify and asks if he’s corrupt or stupid. McCarthy says he’ll ignore that because Robbo is worried. Meanwhile, Novak has Kat drive into a wrecking yard. After parking the car inside the workshop, they get out.
McCarthy and Murray discuss the fact that the signal from the police car’s radio is coming from over near Reefton Lakes and Novak must have ditched it. Despite McCarthy’s efforts, Robbo ends up joining them for a discussion on the fact they didn’t pass any road blocks so must still be in the area. McCarthy orders patrols out and warns Robbo to stay out of the search area. Robbo sees a business card for the wrecker’s on the noticeboard and recalls finding it in the glove box of Beckett’s car. Meanwhile, Novak is marching Kat through the yard. She manages to elbow him in the stomach and knock him down before running off. Recovering, Novak calmly walks after her.
Maggie joins Diana outside the Diner and they briefly talk about the view. Maggie wonders why Richard remarrying has thrown Diana so much when they’ve been separated for years. Diana admits that she always thought they’d have a happy ending and kept dreaming about him coming back and saying he’d made a mistake. She decides to stay out there for a while and declines Maggie’s offer of company. Some time later, Alf finds Diana sitting on the wharf and asks how she’s enjoying her holiday. She notes that she’s been sat there doing nothing and it felt natural. Alf says Summer Bay does that to you, calling it the best place in the world.
Kat hides in the yard while Novak walks around, calling out to her. A car bonnet shifts loudly beneath her foot and Novak appears behind her. She tells him she won’t testify and that she’s pregnant but neither moves him. He shows her a compactor with crushed cars next to it and puts her in an intact car, tying her to the wheel. He then clambers into the crane cab and starts shifting the cars away in front of it. Robbo approaches the yard and climbs over the fence. Novak grabs hold of the car Kat’s in with the crane but Robbo jumps into the cab and wrestles him out of it. He takes the gun off him and punches him out. As Robbo is letting Kat out of the car, Novak runs off and Robbo chases after him.
Olivia joins Hunter at Salt: He has ordered champagne for them. He adds that Mason left to give them alone time. Olivia says Axel just rang her and setting up the line is going to take up most of her time next year. She thinks Hunter needs a career to keep him occupied. Hunter starts a spiel about how much she means to him but is interrupted by a phone call from Axel, which Olivia leaves the table to take. Hunter pops the ring into her champagne glass but when Olivia returns she is mostly talking shop. Hunter pours her more champagne but she manages to knock the glass over. She finds the ring on the floor and assumes someone else lost it, adding that they must have done it on purpose because it’s hideous. She gets a text from Axel asking her to call back and Hunter tells her to do it while he hands the ring in.
Robbo runs back to Kat, tucking the gun into his rear waistband (which she apparently doesn’t see). He tells her Novak got away and unties her hands. Kat is convinced something is wrong with the baby. Robbo takes her to the hospital and hands her over to a nurse, saying she’s pregnant and has been attacked. Kat tells him to let McCarthy know what happened but Robbo’s expression as he turns away suggests he has something else in mind.
Hunter runs into Mason at the Diner and gives a garbled account of how his proposal attempt turned out weird. He says the important thing is that he’s decided he needs to give Olivia a proper proposal… although he’s got no idea how he’s going to do that. Meanwhile, Diana arrives back at the farm with a fish from Alf that Ben quickly takes possession of. She says she’s decided she needs a fresh start…so she’s going to sell up and move there. Coco looks delighted, Ben and Maggie significantly less so.
Robbo goes back to the wrecker’s yard and opens the boot of the stolen police car…where Novak is tied up. Robbo drags him out and tells him to start talking, warning him that he’d better like what he hears.
