Hunter considers doing a DNA test behind Zac’s back. An unexpected visitor could put a spanner in Justin and Phoebe’s travel plans. Kat’s fed up and Patrick gives Ash an ultimatum.
Extended Summary
Hunter discusses his questions about Zac’s paternity with VJ and Olivia. Hunter gets worked up, he’s finally built a relationship with Zac only to find out he might not be his father after all. Olivia encourages Hunter to speak with Zac about it, but Hunter doesn’t want to have such a difficult discussion so soon after Zac’s surgery. VJ suggests a DNA test, Zac would never have to know if they just stole some of his hair. Olivia doesn’t think it’s the way to go about things, behind Zac’s back. But Hunter needs answers. At the diner, Olivia advises Hunter to really think about things before going through with the DNA test, it could change everything, he could lose Zac. He has a dad who loves him, that’s more than some people get. Is the DNA test worth the risk? Later, VJ counsels differently. If Hunter needs to know he should forget about what everyone else thinks. Hunter’s ordered the test online and should receive it in a few days. VJ grabs Zac’s van key so they can get Zac’s hair from his brush. Olivia catches Hunter entering the van and they find it trashed, along with a photo of himself and Zac on the beach, and Zac’s letter to Leah. Hunter feels guilty for not realising Zac’s been doing it so tough. Zac keeps losing people, Hunter is all he has left. Zac’s always looked out for him so Hunter’s going to do the same for him. He’s going to let the paternity question go. Maybe he’ll talk to Zac about it one day, but for now he just wants to forget it.
Mason assures Justin that Brody’s doing much better when Phoebe rushes onto the beach with her signed contract. The three are thrilled. Phoebe signs the contract at the diner and Justin learns Phoebe wants to do a lot of traveling, which throws him. Mason reminds them to get their shots for traveling, but Justin’s not keen. Mason grins, knowing what’s up. Justin’s terrified of needles! Phoebe, Justin and Mason arrive at the hospital for their shots. Justin tries to get out of it but Phoebe pushes him to do it. Mason walks into the room, ready to administer the needles. Phoebe offers to go first so Justin sees it’s no big deal, as long as he doesn’t take off. Mason preps the needle for Phoebe and Justin promptly passes out! At home later, Phoebe teases Justin about his fear of needles. They end up in bed together. In the middle of the night, Buddy starts barking and Justin goes to investigate. He swings the door open and it’s Ava, “Are you my daddy?” Phoebe enters from the bedroom and Justin introduces Ava and admits to Ava, he’s her dad.
In the apartment, Kat’s on her way to work and Ash has to get to the garage, but Patrick’s not keen on babysitting Luc. He finally relents when it’s obvious there’s no other option. Kat apologises for the custody situation to Irene, who accepts and offers to babysit whenever they need her. Upstairs, Luc’s crying has triggered Patrick, who is re-living his war – gunshots, explosions and sirens. Kat takes her coffee outside and hears Luc crying in the apartment. She runs up to the apartment to find Patrick crouched in the corner, sheltering from the explosions he hears. She grabs Luc and calms her down and Patrick asks what happened, as though he blacked out. Kat yells at him for not tending to Luc. Patrick gets defensive and leaves, saying Luc’s better off with Kat – who’s meant to be on her way to work! Later, that night, Ash comes in and finds Kat cooking dinner and Luc asleep. She fills Ash in on what happened with Patrick, questioning why Ash would leave Luc with him when there’s something wrong with Patrick and it’s must be something to do with his time in Afghanistan. Kat won’t let it go and Ash agrees to talk to Patrick about it, but Kat pushes further. She doesn’t think it’s safe for Luc to be around Patrick, she thinks Luc should go to Irene’s for a few nights. Ash refuses, that will bring up the custody question again. He leaves to speak with Patrick and Kat’s left frustrated that Ash won’t listen to her. Ash asks Patrick about being out of it while Luc was crying but Patrick lies, saying he read one of the baby books which said to let them cry themselves out to settle. Ash calls him out on his lie, he’s worried about him and it’s not safe for Luc to be around him when he’s messed up. Patrick says Ash can either kick him out or take him at his word, saying he’ll get better with Luc. Ash acquiesces, but he’s obviously not certain about it.
