Phoebe returns from the tour, but her romantic reunion with Justin is short-lived. Leah’s thrown by a new entrant to the custody battle for Luc. Marilyn and John must adapt to their new reality with John in prison.
Extended Summary
Phoebe’s inspired on her return from the tour in the States. She and Justin enjoy a romantic reunion, which prompts Justin to suggest they forge ahead with their wedding plans. He sees no reason why they should drag out the engagement. Initially, Phoebe appears to be on board, but it soon becomes apparent she is hiding something. She later confides to Kat she’s been offered another singing gig in the states, though this time it’s for twelve months – which means their wedding plans will have to be put on hold. Kat’s confident it won’t be an issue, given what an amazing opportunity this is for Phoebe to further her singing career. However, Phoebe is unsure and we later discover the reason why. When she breaks the news to Justin about the offer, she admits she has already accepted the gig, leaving Justin furious that she didn’t think to talk to him about it first.
Irene learns from Leah that Morag thinks VJ’s chances of winning custody at mediation are pretty slim – Ash has the advantage. Irene wonders whether she’s underestimated the chances of Ash getting custody, and after speaking to Morag herself, she makes a life-changing decision. She goes to Leah, insisting that she’s on her and VJ’s side, but then reveals that she is also applying for custody of Luc. Leah is stunned.
Kat and Ash are having no luck in their house hunt, knowing they need a proper residence to secure custody of Luc. Then Ash overhears that Roo intends to move back in with Leah and Alf, and so he decides to apply for the Pier Apartment.
Following John’s sentencing, Marilyn’s numb with shock. After Morag insists they’ll appeal his lengthy gaol term, Marilyn clings to the hope that John’s prison stay will be short. So much so that she’s unable to accept the reality that not only will the appeal take some time, there’s a chance it may not be successful. When she visits John in prison, Marilyn maintains her positive attitude, reassuring him that everything is under control. John, in turn brave-faces for her sake, insisting he’s coping well in prison.
