Will Brody be tempted by Lena again? Marilyn struggles to decide between the Bay and John. A codependent Matt and Evelyn make a snap decision to get married!
Extended Summary
At Salt, Brody is in a better mood and has made Lena a cocktail to try out from his new menu. Lena offers to celebrate and they kiss. A hyper happy Brody greets Evelyn and Matt as they enter, interrupting the kiss. Brody confirms he’s ready to hold their farewell drinks tomorrow and they leave, murmuring about how happy Brody seems. Justin asks if Brody needs a lift home, but he’s going to stick behind to test recipes, suddenly full of energy. Justin heads out. Giggly Brody and Lena have fun testing dessert recipes. Brody admits he had a little help and Lena knew it, she knew a little ‘pick me up’ would help loosen him up. They head into the storage cupboard and begin to make out. Later, Brody arrives home, worse for wear, drinks from the kitchen tap and stares at himself in the mirror. Does he recognise himself? In the morning, Raffy asks Justin if Phoebe’s picked her bridesmaids yet, cos Tori and herself want a say. Mason pipes up, Justin hasn’t even got Phoebe a ring yet, which Raffy thinks is super slack. They don’t even have a date for the engagement party. Raffy warns him not to leave it too long, it’s bad luck. Raffy found that on the internet, when she was looking for bridesmaids’ dresses. Getting the memo, Justin asks Brody if they could have the engagement party next week at Salt, but Brody’s feeling poorly after last night. He lies and says he worked late. Justin asks again about the party but Brody uncharacteristically snaps and says he’s got too much going on with the review to worry about holding a party. He’s feeling the pressure and the aftereffects of the drugs. Brody runs into Lena on his way to work and apologises for being unprofessional last night. Lena dismisses his apology, she enjoyed it, especially what happened in the storeroom. She clocks that he’s not feeling great and advises he’ll get used to it. Brody tells her he won’t because it’s never happening again. Lena backs off and they head to work, happy enough in one another’s company. Justin asks Mason if he’s noticed anything weird about Brody. Mason thinks he’s just stressed about the restaurant and Justin wonders if he needs the family to step up and help out, but Mason lets him know Brody’s hired Lena, the drug dealer. Justin’s incredulous. Justin arrives at Salt in time to see Brody and Lena cosily looking over the new menu. He asks Brody about what’s going on and Brody lies again, Lena is just an employee. Justin thinks he knows why Brody snapped this morning and asks to talk, leaving Brody wondering if Justin knows he did drugs and had a one night stand with Lena. Outside, Brody apologises vaguely, still not sure if Justin knows the whole truth. Justin, sure Brody is stressing about the restaurant, offers his help with getting the place together before the review, all Brody has to do is ask. Brody agrees he will ask if he needs the help. Justin reckons this is what happened to their father, he let things get on top of him and didn’t ask for help, then he made bad decisions. Justin assures Brody, his proud of him and there’s no way a bad review could ever change that. Justin also tells Brody not to worry about the engagement party, they’ll do it at a later date. He leaves, and Brody’s relieved Justin doesn’t know the truth about the drugs. Later at Salt, tells Brody there’s no shame in needing a little help, and last night she met the guy who’s inside Brody’s stressed out head and thought he was pretty cool. Brody wants to focus on his work and Lena promises to be a great waitress, but if he needs a kick, he knows he can ask her for it.
A furious Alf interrogates John on why he wants to leave the Bay, dragging Marilyn with him. Running away won’t solve his problems. Alf can’t believe John would drag Marilyn away from everything she knows and loves, that’s not the right thing to do. John says it’s Marilyn’s choice. Alf knows Marilyn would selflessly go along with whatever John said was best for him, but she wouldn’t be happy. This gives John food for thought. John tells Marilyn Summer Bay means just as much to him as it does to Marilyn, it’s where his heart is. It would be hard to leave and he doesn’t want to force her into anything, but staying is killing him. He wishes he was stronger, but he’s just not. Having listened to Evelyn talk about how she doesn’t mind where she is as long as she’s with Matt, Marilyn comes home to John. She tells him that after Byron died, Summer Bay was the last place she wanted to be, it was full of memories, so she understands how he feels. She’s going to miss her friends and job, but if John really needs to leave then they will leave together. John’s relieved. Maz goes to see Alf and thanks him for the recent support but Alf shrugs it off, that’s what friends are for. Maz tells him she and John are leaving and Marilyn’s sure she’s made the right decision. Alf’s not pleased and a teary Marilyn leaves him in his garden to pondering the departures of some of the Bay’s characters.
Evelyn and Matt surprise Ellie with news that they’re going to spend the whole day with her doing things she might not have done in Summer Bay yet, like the Lighthouse Walk. Ellie passes, she’s hanging out with Raffy. That takes the wind out of Matt and Evelyn’s sails. Matt and Evelyn have the whole day to themselves and wonder if they’re being lame and codependent. Evelyn suggests they go their separate ways for the day and visit the people that mean something to them on their last day in the Bay. They agree to meet at Salt later. Matt seeks out Alf. He’s always been someone Matt’s looked up to and he’s going to miss him. Alf doesn’t want Matt going soft on him but Matt offers a hug and a ‘I love you Mr S.’ Meanwhile Evelyn runs into Maz at the diner, most of her friends are busy but she’ll see them at the drinks later. Marilyn had forgotten about the drinks! Evelyn thanks Maz for all the support she’s given her over the years. Evelyn admits she’s not sad about leaving. She will miss people but if she’s with Matt, it doesn’t matter where they are as long as they’re together. Matt finds Evelyn on the Pier, he couldn’t wait to see her. It’s official, they’re codependent. They talk about how much they’re going to miss the Bay and their memories. They hold hands and leap off the pier hand-in-hand, happy and in love. Evelyn wonders if they will ever come back to the Bay and Matt thinks so, once the kids are grown up. Evelyn counters, they’ll have to get married first. She suggests tomorrow! Matt agrees! Last minute Bay wedding!
