Can Hunter and Olivia’s relationship survive O Week? Someone has a crush on Mason. Ash is seeking solace in Kat’s bed, when he receives shocking news about his brother. Ellie throws a spanner in Matt and Evelyn’s Vietnam dream.

Extended Summary

A happy couple at last, Hunter agrees to attend O Week with Olivia. Olivia gives Hunter a uni tour. They meet Lena, a fellow fashion design student who needs directions. Lena introduces a new friend, Byron, to Olivia and invites her to Salt’s uni night. Olivia is reluctant – it’s her ex’s restaurant. Byron offers to protect her but Hunter pops up and clarifies that he’s Olivia’s boyfriend, no need for Byron’s protection. Lena ruins Olivia’s plan to invite Hunter to Salt – it’s for uni students only, you need a student ID. Byron’s unimpressed that Hunter’s repeating Year 12. The uni students head off to get their student ID cards, leaving Hunter alone with a niggling worry about Byron’s intentions. Byron finds and taunts Hunter about Olivia being way out of his league. Hunter and Byron have a shoving match which Mason breaks up, telling Byron to get lost. Olivia sees the end of the incident, but Hunter heads home leaving Olivia wondering what the hell is going on. Olivia finds Hunter, he thinks Olivia’s having second thoughts. The situation made him realise the year will be tough for them. Olivia will be at uni and Hunter will be at high school. Olivia convinces him they’ll be fine, they’ll make it work, whatever happens.

At the Diner, Matt is packing discusses Vietnam with Evelyn. They’re excited, but Matt hasn’t talked to Ellie yet. He’s not sure of the best way to break the news to her, but Evelyn encourages him to bite the bullet. Matt breaks the news about Vietnam to Ellie and she’s not too enthusiastic about uprooting her life and moving away from her friends. She can’t believe he’s taking her away without asking her. Matt argues that he’s asking her now. She storms off. Matt downloads to Evelyn about Ellie’s negative reaction to the Vietnam news. Evelyn offers to cancel her position, but Matt’s confident he can talk Ellie around. Raffy can’t believe her best friend is going away for a year! Matt can’t tell Ellie what to do, he’s not her official legal guardian. Matt tries to win Ellie over with Lonely Planet’s fun facts about Vietnam, but Ellie reaffirms she will be staying in the Bay, with Raffy in fact, and Matt cannot force her to go because he’s not her legal guardian. Matt’s in a tough spot. Matt relays the bad news about Ellie to Evelyn. He confesses he won’t feel right leaving Ellie here, so he’s going to stay in the Bay. He encourages Evelyn to pursue her dream in Vietnam anyway, but she decides not to go without him. Neither of them feel great about the decision.

Ash receives Billie’s death certificate in the mail. It hits him hard. He seeks out Kat, who takes him out to get his mind off it. Ash ignores a phone call, it’s a woman trying to work out Billie’s estate. He tells Kat he wants the small amount to go to Luc, but he has to prove his brother is dead before they will release the money. Kat picks up the phone to call Births, Deaths and Marriages. After the call, Ash confides in Kat that he can’t believe he’s the last Ashford left, they’re almost extinct, but Kat tells him he’s not alone. They fall passionately into bed together. After their midday fumble in bed, Kat tells Ash he doesn’t have to leave. If they want to be together there’s nothing stopping them. Ash confesses he loves Kat and always has. Looks like they’re back together. Kat and Ash are cuddled on the sofa when Ash ignores another call. They flirt but Kat receives a return call from Births, Deaths and Marriages. They want to know if Ash’s brother had another name, but he didn’t, just Luke Ashford. Kat relays the news to Ash – there’s no death certificate for Luke Ashford. According to the authorities, Ash’s brother is not dead!

Mason is avoiding helping Brody with O Week preparations by working out at the gym. When Brody asks, Mason claims says he’s cool about Olivia going to the same uni. Brody’s not convinced. Later, unpacking Salt supplies at the Uni, Mason spots Olivia and Hunter looking around together, he assumes they’re a couple now. Justin advises Mason not to let Olivia get to him. But again, Mason claims he’s fine with it. Lena picks up a leaflet advertising Salt’s Wednesday Unit nights from Brody. Justin asks to accompany Mason around campus but Mason’s sick of his brothers’ attention and blows his top. Justin was right about Olivia all along, she thinks Mason’s a loser so he should be happy! Mason angrily stalks off. Olivia thanks Mason for breaking up the fight between Byron and Hunter. Mason confirms Hunter and Olivia are now together and she apologises for hurting him, but Mason thanks her for being honest with her feelings. As Mason leaves, Lena finds Olivia and quizzes her on Mason’s relationship status. Olivia encourages her to go for it.
