Extended Summary

Zac follows Sam to the door in Salt, asking if she’s out of her mind approaching him in a place where everyone knows him. He points out he’s married. Sam says she’s seen them arguing and Zac isn’t impressed that she was spying on him, walking out on her. Back at the house, VJ and Billie have filled Alf, Ash and Hunter in on the baby blessing, with Billie insisting Ash can’t just wear jeans and a t-shirt. VJ says he’s narrowed the guests down to twenty. Alf wonders if they should wait until Irene gets back but Billie says she doesn’t know when she’s coming so told them to go ahead. Phoebe and Kat are also working. Hunter confirms he’s okay with Olivia being invited. Leah appears with the decorations from the wedding and Alf leaves them to go see Marilyn. They discuss guideparents and Ash happily accepts being guidefather. VJ says they’re still deciding on guidemother but Billie asks Leah.

Mason and Matt are at the Diner chatting about going to see a movie. Olivia comes over and asks if they’ve heard about the baby blessing. Matt says he’s going but Mason hasn’t been invited. Olivia suggests he go as her date but Mason says he has an assignment and needs to look after Justin. After Olivia’s gone, Matt asks Mason what’s going on and Mason explains Justin advised him to back off. Matt points out how long it took Justin to get together with Phoebe and tells him to go for it. Round the back of the caravan park house, VJ asks Billie what she was doing and Billie says she got carried away. VJ reminds her he was still thinking about it. Billie thinks Leah was fine with it, then starts coughing again. VJ worries Leah will feel obliged to say yes. Leah emerges and says she doesn’t but is confused by her role: Is she still Luc’s yiayia? Billie assures her she is.

Alf gives Marilyn flowers as John brings some biscuits over. John says they’ve got a routine going after the bumpy start. They’ve heard of the baby blessing but aren’t sure what it is. Alf says VJ and Billie would love to see them but will understand if they’re not up to it. Marilyn muses that she’d like to see Luc. John suggests they sleep on it. Meanwhile, Zac finds Leah in the bedroom; he’s been filled in on the baby blessing. Leah assures him she’s fine with it and honoured to be guideparent. She also apologises for pushing him away. When she asks where he went, he says he just went for a drink and a walk. Downstairs, VJ and Billie are looking after Luc. They accept the roles are a big confusing and VJ says he doesn’t have to be called Dad but Billie insists he does. VJ says they have to tell Luc the truth eventually, suggesting when she’s sixteen. Billie is worried Luc will feel unwanted if she finds out what her biological dad did and eventually says they’ll work it out as they go along. She stays up alone to feed Luc but starts coughing.

Next morning, John finds Marilyn up early. She says she couldn’t sleep. After mulling things over and considering it’d be the first time she saw everyone since the fire, she decides they should go to the baby blessing. Later, however, she’s trying to cover up the burns with make-up and unable to brush her hair. John insists she always looks beautiful but, when she says they can’t go to the baby blessing, he agrees without argument, saying it’s only temporary and there’ll be other celebrations.

Zac gets a text which he tells Leah is from a teacher. Leah asks his opinion on her outfit and notes he was restless during the night. He says he was worried about what to say; Leah realises she doesn’t know either but Zac says she always speaks from the heart. He checks the text, actually from Sam: “I need to see you. Please.” Downstairs, Billie is coughing over the food and Alf, Leah and VJ send her to rest. Zac says he has to go and deal with a work problem. Instead, he goes to Salt to meet Sam, where he tells her to go. However, when she starts to leave, he apologises if he gave her the wrong impression. Sam insists it’s not one-sided: He told her things he hasn’t told anyone else but backed off when she tried to kiss him. Matt enters and Sam hurriedly leaves. Matt asks who she was and Zac tells him to leave it.

Alf, Leah and Ash are getting things set up as Zac arrives back. VJ, Billie and Luc come downstairs and Leah gets a text saying John and Marilyn aren’t coming,. Leah goes to take a photo of the group but Alf tells her to get in with them and takes the photograph himself. Outside, Olivia arrives and greets Hunter, with them chatting about him going to school in a friendly manner. Irene has e-mailed a speech for Olivia to read out. Mason arrives and greets Matt before telling Olivia he finished what he had to do early; she is pleased to see him. Zac calls everyone over.

VJ, Billie and Leah bring Luc out and Zac introduces the service. Ash speaks first, saying any kid of Billie’s was bound to be trouble but “Uncle Marty” is there to pull her into line. Leah says that she was once told that you love your children but are in love with your grandchildren, adding that she’s honoured to be Luc’s yiayia and privileged to be her guideparent. Olivia reads Irene’s speech in which she says she wasn’t expecting to be a grandma again and still isn’t sure about calling herself that but that VJ, Billie and Luc will always be special to her. Olivia adds for herself that they can count on her for babysitting, fashion advice and a shoulder to cry on. Billie talks about being surrounded by friends and family and how lucky they are to have VJ. VJ kisses them both.

Afterwards, Leah compliments VJ while Billie assures Ash his speech wasn’t too cheesy. Mason congratulates Olivia on her speech. She notes he seems to have been reluctant to give PDAs recently and Mason admits it was something Justin said. They kiss; Hunter sees and leaves unnoticed. Billie starts coughing again and hands Luc over to VJ. She coughs up blood but doesn’t say anything.

Matt asks Zac who the woman he saw him with was, following him outside. Zac tries to dismiss the matter. Olivia says goodbye to Mason. Billie’s cough is getting worse and Leah goes to get her some water. Zac has told Matt who Sam is and explains he didn’t want Leah to know she’s in town. Leah overhears and is angry Zac kept it from her. Billie is now coughing continuously; Alf tries to help her but she passes out. The others come rushing in at the commotion and Alf tells a horrified Ash to call an ambulance. Luc wails in VJ’s arms as Billie lies unconscious.
