Extended Summary
Brody arrives home to join the rest of the Morgans in processing Decker’s death. Justin takes the USB to Kat, but first he has to get past Phoebe, who’s thrown to learn Kat now knows the Morgans’ secret and is Justin’s new go-to support person. Together, Kat and Justin look at Decker’s files and realise it must be all of his research into the drug syndicate, but there’s still several folders worth of material that are protected. Kat suggests taking the USB to Ranae but Justin doesn’t trust her yet. They search for her name in the files – nothing. He has an idea how to make sure she is trustworthy…
Hunter is awkward on seeing Olivia before asking her what’s going on with Mason. Olivia admits things are too complicated for her to embark on another relationship, so nothing more will happen. Hunter’s privately thrilled. Alf complains to Marilyn about kids these days messing about and bludging. Marilyn thinks it would be good for Hunter to get a job to take his mind off Olivia. Alf takes that in. He gruffly offers Hunter a job at the Bait Shop. Hunter, happy, tells Olivia and asks her to come celebrate. Olivia gets a message from Mason and Hunter sees it. He get angry – she’s into him. Just admit it. Angry, Olivia tells him off – maybe she should be with Mason after all. Hunter knows he’s blown it.
Nate’s not happy about being kept at arm’s distance by Tori, when she asks him to leave their house which is under police guard. Meanwhile, Ranae tells Kat they’re planning on making an arrest for Decker’s murder. Following Justin’s plan, Kat gives Ranae Decker’s USB stick, saying a doctor handed it in last night. Kat claims not to have seen what’s on it, testing Ranae to see what she’ll do with the information. Ranae promises to look into it.
Back at the Morgan house, Brody’s ready to run, convinced it’s what Decker would have told them to do. Tori’s reluctant, it’s not about just them anymore, they’ve got Raffy to consider, and she needs to grieve. To go to her dad’s funeral… Brody guesses at the heart of her reluctance is Nate. Tori doesn’t want to leave him – Nate wants to help, and she can’t tell him the truth. It’s tearing her apart.
Ranae tells Kat that Decker’s USB contains nothing useful. Doubting that, Kat becomes convinced Ranae can’t be trusted, and calls Justin to tell him so. Meanwhile, Phoebe’s worried about Justin and the Morgans’. Kat arrives, letting Justin know she made another copy of the USB. They’re sure Ranae’s at the very least protecting the syndicate. She’s setting someone up to take the fall for Decker’s murder. They look at the files again, trying to find Ranae on there. Meanwhile, Olivia’s tracked down Mason, who’s drawn to how vulnerable he is. An URSTy moment, which Tori witnesses. She warns him not to get to attached. They may have to run again. Mason’s adamant – no way he’s throwing away the life he’s built here when they’re so close to being safe. Tori’s not sure she believes the files will save them.
Nate crosses with Phoebe – revealing how frustrating it is to be locked out by Tori. Knowing the full truth about the Morgans’, Phoebe counsels him to have faith in Tori. She’ll explain everything when the time’s right. Nate gets a message to come see Tori. She tells him she wants to be honest with him, but she can’t. But he should hang in there. Nate presses – she can trust him. But Tori refuses. Nate decides to be patient and wait.
Meanwhile, Kat and Justin find Blaine’s name on the USB. Justin tells Kat Blaine’s the dog who killed his parents. Kat sees a photo of Ranae connected to him – her real name’s Rachel Malloy and she was Blaine’s girlfriend. She faked her identity and climbed her way up the police force. Kat has to talk Justin down from confronting Ranae and instead they agree to leave under the cover of darkness to take the USB to the Commissioner himself. He tells his siblings to pack their bags and get to Kat (and Phoebe’s) place. They’re sure Ranae’s not onto them yet…
… However, Ranae’s on the hunt for the staff member who handed in the USB trying to find out if they had access to the files. She asks Nate who knows nothing about it and hands Ranae a log of all Decker’s possessions. The USB’s not on it. Alarm bells for Ranae – Kat’s playing her and she knows it.
Phoebe’s happy to help the Morgans, excited to hear this could all soon be over. When Kat returns to the Morgans’ house to pick up Justin they realise the cops posted on the house are gone. Ranae must have called them off… Dread taking over, they try and run – but it’s too late, and the house assailed by a barrage of bullets. Kat and Justin hide, the USB dropped in the middle of the floor… will they survive?
