Extended Summary

At home, Justin and Raffy are hopeful about the future and her relationship with her dad. Raffy thinks Justin was pretty good today. Their happiness is punctured when Justin gets a call from Kat. Meanwhile, Tori and Nate begin their shift at the hospital. He wants to know what’s going on with the Morgans’ and Kat, but Tori assures him there’s nothing. They join Mason at the desk – it’s a slow night. Little do they know all hell’s about to break loose when Decker’s rushed in, with a shaken Kat following. While being prepped for theatre, a USB stick falls from Decker’s pocket. Decker has one gunshot wound to the abdomen, one to the upper arm and one that has collapsed Decker’s right lung. Mason and Tori share an alarmed look when they realise who it is. Mason tries to comfort Decker. Decker takes the chance, and murmurs something about the USB to Mason, but it’s inaudible. Nate snaps for Mason to help, while he and Tori battle to stabilise Decker, who has lost a lot of blood. Mason exits to go be with Raffy and Justin. Nate also tells Tori to go be with her family, as Decker is taken to surgery. Raffy is horrified by the turn of events, fearful of losing her dad, who she has only just begun to connect with Tori comforts her. She sends Mason back into the room, where he finds Decker’s USB stick on the floor.

Justin takes Kat aside to confront her, and Kat admits she knows they’re in witness protection and that someone in the force wanted Decker dead. Kat wants to know what she’s up against. The more she knows, the more she can protect the Morgans’. Justin makes Kat aware of how deep they’re in. This goes to the top. Kat will corral the cops she works with and trusts to be stationed at the hospital. Justin warns Kat now the syndicate have seen her with Decker, she’ll become a target. Mason sees them talking and realises Justin’s told her everything. Mason shows him the USB. They speculate the evidence is on it. The Morgans’ warn Brody to stay away until they know it’s safe. Nate gives them all the grim news that Decker’s injuries are serious and he’s going to need a bowel resection. Kat’s organised trustworthy cops at the house, so the Morgans’ prepare to go home. Tori also realises Kat’s all over it. Justin defends his decision to tell her – they need her.

A scared and shattered Raffy admits to Justin she’s terrified of losing her dad. Mason and Justin attempt to open the files on the USB, but they are frustrated it is password protected. Olivia shows up to check in on Mason. She heard from Nate that a friend of the family’s been hurt. She realises the family is in danger. Mason wishes he could tell her – but he can’t. Olivia understands. Meanwhile, at work – Nate offers support for Tori.

Superintendent Ranae Turner introduces herself to Kat – the Commissioner sent her. Kat is instinctively wary, though Ranae seems to genuinely care. They are shocked when alarms go off in Decker’s Recovery Room. He has gone into cardiac arrest. Tori desperately tries to save him but eventually she realises – Decker is dead. Overwhelmed by the horrible news, Raffy runs off. Mason catches up with her, holding her tight. Despite their own grief, Tori and Justin question what this means for them – they are more isolated than ever. Justin shows her the USB, convinced it will reveal the dirty cop. Ranae finds Tori and Justin, making it clear their family’s safety is her highest priority. She will be their permanent protection officer. She vows to find the bastards who killed Decker. Tori and Justin want to know what’s next. Ranae tells them for the time being they’ll stay low, and follow Kat’s plan of keeping their house protected. Justin and Tori remain uneasy, not sure if they can trust Ranae.

Nate returns home, where he fills in Irene and Olivia about Decker’s death. Olivia mentions that when she went to see Mason there were cops all over their house. Nate’s thrown – Tori didn’t say anything. Nate and Olivia both feel there’s more to the story than the Morgans’ are telling them.

Ranae finds Kat, telling her she knows Kat was checking her credentials. She’s impressed with Kat’s industriousness and quick thinking – setting up the guard for the Morgans’. Kat wants to join the other officers protecting them, but Ranae stops her – she’s a friend of the Morgans’. She guesses Kat knows the whole story. Ranae’s taking charge of the Morgan case now, and reveals Decker was more than a colleague – he was a friend. Both Kat and Ranae want the same thing. Justice and to help the Morgans’. She wants Kat onside

Raffy is in a world of pain – left with the awful realisation she will never know her father. Tori does her best to offer comfort. Mason and Justin struggle to backdoor the USB password. Tori thinks they should ask Ranae – Kat says she checks out. But Justin shuts that down, unwilling to trust her just yet. Stuck – Justin spots Raffy’s necklace. He tells Mason to type in ‘sparrow’ which works. There is a huge amount of data on it. Justin and Mason agree they should show it to Kat.

Ranae informally questions Kat over her preliminary statement – did Kat leave out any details of her conversation with Decker before he was shot? Kat hedges – Decker didn’t really get the chance before he was shot. Alone, Ranae takes out a burner phone and makes a call: Decker’s dead, move on to next target.

Ranae is the dirty cop!
