Extended Summary
Readying themselves for their first antenatal class, VJ and Billie discuss telling people about being engaged – it’s been a week. Billie insists she wants to do it properly, later today for sure. On arrival at the class, Billie sees Dr Benson. Knowing Dr Benson’s awareness of her true conception date, she feigns dizziness and heads outside where VJ questions her, and Billie blames the pregnancy. Well now they’ve skipped the class, they’re free to tell their friends and family about the engagement but again Billie holds off. However, finding everyone at the Diner, VJ can’t contain his excitement and makes the announcement, much to the quiet chagrin of Billie. To make matters worse, he decides a proper celebration later tonight at Salt is in order, as Billie slides out, not wanting Ash to hear the news second hand. When she finds Ash at the farmhouse she voices her concern, would VJ have proposed if she wasn’t pregnant? But Ash eases her concern with big brotherly comfort. In contrast VJ couldn’t be happier, doing his best to cover to Leah that he went over Billie’s head on the announcement. When the couple catch up, Billie tells VJ she didn’t want to announce it that way but VJ reckons she didn’t want to announce it at all. It’s not that, claims Billie. It’s just taken her longer to wrap her head around it, but now she’s ready, and to prove it, she moves the ring to her ring finger – it’s official. However, later, as VJ cleans out the caravan that he and Billie used to share, he finds a crumpled up and torn note addressed to him and what’s left of it reads she’s leaving him. Upset and confused, VJ confronts Billie over the note and demands an explanation. Due at their engagement party, she brushes it off, saying she doesn’t remember writing it, but VJ wants the truth.
As the sun rises, Ash and Kat have enjoyed a night together at Ash’s caravan despite Kat’s three month probation and as Kat slips out, doing up her uniform, someone is in the bushes taking photos. Later, both are in the Diner sitting separately to keep up appearances but sending flirty messages to one another until the tease gets too much and Kat proposes a scandalous booty call. So when there’s a knock at her door later, she’s expecting Ash but finds Billie instead, distressed. When Ash does arrive, he manages to placate his sister of her worries as she wonders what he’s doing there – Kat covers, he’s there to repair the fridge. The close call prompts them to find somewhere more secluded. They find peace in a hotel room, until another unexpected knock on the door, has them both jumping. As Kat scurries to the bathroom, Ash finds a confused and embarrassed Zac who quickly removes himself, leaving Ash to voice the very true question, why would a married guy need a motel room? But Kat warns Ash to say out of it. After a conversation with Ash and Zac, Kat, ever the cop, wants to know what Zac said, but Ash keeps his word, leaving Kat in the dark. As for them, they can’t wait for the probation to be over to go so they can go public. Stealing a last kiss before departing, they don’t realise once again they’re being watched, and photographed.
Zac returns home in the morning, with a huge bouquet of flowers, apologising to Leah for his recent bouts of absenteeism, and promises to try harder at home and with Hunter. But later as the family celebrate VJ’s happy announcement, Zac receives a text from the mysterious Sam and rushes out. However when he gets to the hotel room he’s due to meet her in, he finds Ash instead and is embarrassed as to how this must look, removing himself quickly from the awkwardness. When he catches up with Ash, he tries his best to cover but fails miserably, and offers to tell Ash the truth, but he’s got to keep it secret…
