Extended Summary
Hunter trains with John on the beach as Olivia approaches, questioning him over his studies, as both are caught off-guard by his quickness to dismiss hitting the books. Unbeknownst to them, Rebekah’s sale of the exam is at the front of Hunter’s mind. It takes John to call the session off and push Hunter towards the books. As he does Zac arrives, offering to help. Hunter would love some, but Zac can’t right now, maybe tonight? Hunter is left disappointed, there’s a pattern forming with his Dad’s constant absence. Instead Hunter agrees to Rebekah’s offer as Leah appears. Hunter explains his Dad is too busy to help him study – but Leah was sure Zac had the day off? Oddly, a humble Hunter arrives at the Diner where Olivia is working, his tail is between his legs and requesting $300 for ‘a tutor’. Olivia is forthcoming as Roo overhears and offers to help for free. Hunter has no choice but to accept Roo’s kind offer despite the fact Rebekah is waiting on the pier to do the sale. Olivia is left confused by Hunter’s reluctance to accept Roo’s offer but Marilyn dismisses it, until Rebekah enters looking for Hunter, only to try and sell the exam to Olivia instead, and all is revealed. However, at the Diner, tutor and student are in full swing, Roo is a great teacher as Hunter is finally comprehending Shakespeare. But when Olivia and Irene enter, Olivia outs Hunter for attempting to cheat. Around the dinner table later, Zac gives Hunter the third degree about the paper but Hunter turns it back on his Dad – none of this would have happened if Zac had been there to help him, and storms out. Olivia catches up with Hunter, angered that he lied to her, but he swears he won’t do it again – Roo has helped him realise the value of studying.
A well-dressed Zac enters the Diner, bound for a meeting before Olivia enters in a huff and gives Zac grief for his son’s lack of dedication to studying. Zac will speak to him later, but Marilyn presses the exams are only a week away. So when Zac finds Hunter at the beach he’s quick to offer study support but is just as quick to postpone the offer – he’s busy today. The reason for the suit becomes clear, he has a date with Samantha at Salt. Over a glass of wine the pair seem smitten with each other, however Leah enters as Sam’s at the bar buying the next round. Zac lies to his wife, telling her he’s in an important meeting, and turns her around. Later, when Hunter accuses his father of not being there for him, Leah supports Hunter, Zac has been an absent father and husband. But he doesn’t need to listen to this, and he receives a text, leaves and meets Sam in secret.
Justin arrives at the farmhouse looking for Raffy, but proves evasive to Phoebe’s line of questioning about why he’d kept Decker’s waking a secret. Justin offers the full truth, they’ve learnt Raffy is their sister, but she doesn’t know. Phoebe appreciates the sensitivity, but they had an agreement, or is he not interested in her any more? When John finds Justin deep in thought by the beach, Justin confesses he and Phoebe are having trouble getting started and John offers one must be in the right headspace before starting something new. At the same time Phoebe is unloading on Marilyn who offers the opposite wisdom, she and John had lots of problems but they stuck at it and it was worthwhile in the end. When Phoebe arrives at Justin’s door unexpectedly, the pair are ready to reconcile, but Phoebe tells Justin to look after his family first, ‘they’ can wait.
