Will Decker’s deteriorating condition divide the Morgans? Matt’s attempt to teach Ellie a lesson reveals his true feelings for Evelyn. Can Raffy convince Hope to stay in Summer Bay?
Extended Summary
As Tori resuscitates Decker, Justin takes Raffy out of the hospital, leaving Brody, Mason and Hope to wait for more news. Tori finds them and explains that Decker went into respiratory arrest and has been re-intubated. When Decker’s condition deteriorates further the next morning, Tori has to tell Hope and Raffy that he’s lapsed back into a coma – and they need to start accepting that Decker may never wake up.
Brody tells Justin that with Decker all but gone and Spike looming, they can’t just stand around doing nothing. Justin knows he’s right, while at the hospital, Mason offers Tori some research that may help her wake Decker up. Tori gets a call from Justin, and is instantly alarmed. She goes to him with Mason and tells him he can’t call the Feds. But Justin and Brody think they need someone looking out for them if Decker can’t. Tori wants him to wait another week to see if Decker will wake up. Later, Tori examines Decker, but nothing’s changed. As she walks out, Decker’s hands start moving and the machines beep. Tori races to his side and calls for help – Decker’s waking up!
Matt continues to pretend dating Evelyn to teach Ellie a lesson. When Ellie tests her new boundaries, she’s thrilled to find her plan worked – he’s too busy to try and control her now. Evelyn lets Matt take a photo of her for his phone display, but is not convinced it’s the best way for Matt to handle things. And when Marilyn’s over the moon about their relationship, Evelyn gets even more uncomfortable.
Later, at the Diner, Matt’s forced to take his plan to the next level, and kisses Evelyn passionately in front of Ellie to keep up the charade. Ellie leaves disgusted, and neither Matt or Evelyn know what to make of the unexpected moment. Then when Roo catches Ellie trying to hitch a ride to Yabbie Creek with a stranger, she goes to Matt and offers some advice – try treating Ellie with respect. That night, Matt comes clean to Ellie about Evelyn, and promises to back off if Ellie can show he can trust her.
Matt meets Evelyn and tells her about his new approach. Evelyn’s relieved, and asks him to delete her photo. But when she leaves, he can’t bring himself to do it. Are his feelings for Evelyn real?
After Justin tells Raffy she’ll have the Morgans no matter what happens to Decker, he takes her home and offers Hope some kind words too. When they get the bad news about Decker, Hope thinks they should say their goodbyes and head home to get on with their lives. But Raffy wants to stay in Summer Bay – she feels safe and knows the Morgans will look after them. Hope can see that Raffy needs the stability, and gets on board with the idea.
