Extended Summary

Evelyn continues to drown, with no-one around to save her. Just as all hope is lost, a hand pulls her out – it’s Chris in a lifeboat. A worried Mason gets word via John when Chris radios it in. As Mason rushes to the beach to check on her, he hangs back as he sees Chris comforting her. Chris signals – he’s got this – and Mason leaves him to it. Chris can relate to her grief after the loss of Hannah and lets Evelyn pour out her emotions. Then Evelyn asks Chris if he can do something for her…

A downtrodden Kat tells Phoebe she needs a job and Phoebe may have the answer. When Phoebe swings by to ask Brody if he can hire Kat, she’s interrupted by Justin trying badly to wrap Brody’s injured leg up for a shower. Phoebe uses the opportunity to offer to play nurse and do it herself – in exchange for a favour. Brody caves and agrees Kat can try out waitressing at Salt. As Phoebe finishes up the leg wrapping, almost in an intimate position with Brody, Justin suddenly forgets his haste to get out of there and stays to supervise, much to Brody’s amusement. When Brody’s finally in the shower, Justin tries to apologise to Phoebe about last week and puts himself out there – saying he’d like to ask her out. It’s more a statement than a question and Phoebe is unconvinced. Things remain uncertain for these two.

Meanwhile a dressed up Tori arrives at the caravan park to Duncan with a peace offering. She hands over a bottle of wine, apologising for snapping at him before. She covers by saying she just hated seeing him beat himself up over the crash – the only thing he’s responsible for is saving their lives. As Tori goes to leave, Duncan takes a chance and asks if she’d join him to share the wine? Tori hesitates, but seeing Duncan is genuine, eventually accepts. The pair get back into some flirty banter fairly easily but then Duncan asks her the dreaded question – why are you still single? Tori concedes the compliment but then goes on to explain medicine takes up a lot of time, plus when her parents died she had to take care of her brothers. Tori is surprised she’s opening up to Duncan so much – is this a sign their romance is back on track? Seems it may be as when the date comes to an end, Tori goes in for a kiss. She pulls away quickly though, embarrassed, but Duncan pulls her back in for more. These two are clearly still into each other.

Chris has taken Evelyn to the cemetery at her request. She tries to explain how alone she’s felt since Oscar died, as Chris agrees he wakes up every day hoping it was just a bad dream that he lost Hannah. Evelyn doesn’t know how she can cope and Chris understands. With Chris’ support, Evelyn goes to Oscar’s grave to talk to him, and finally say goodbye. Back at home, Evelyn apologises to Alf for all the fuss. Mason comes by to check on her and Evelyn takes him aside to say sorry for her behaviour. Mason also apologises for saying some harsh things, but Evelyn waves it away – she’s so glad he was there with her in the car. He probably saved her life. They embrace in a hug and Evelyn is glad to have her friend back.

Kat starts at Salt for her first shift and thanks Phoebe for helping her get the job. Just as she’s familiarising herself with the menu, Ash walks in – he can’t believe she works here. Kat takes it as criticism and gets her back up. Ash tries to backpedal, saying he would have given her a job at the garage but Kat is annoyed – does he think she can’t do this? It’s clear there’s still tension between these two. As Kat works, she has to deal with her old boss, Sergeant McCarthy coming in to eat with some old work mates. Kat tries to take it in her stride, but Ash witnesses and can see she’s embarrassed.

At the Morgan house, Brody decides it’s time to grill Justin about Phoebe – having overheard their conversation from the shower. Brody warns Justin not to hurt her, thinking he’ll do what he always does and give her the flick after a few weeks. Phoebe’s a mate – and he can’t do that. An annoyed Justin blurts that maybe he wants more than that with Phoebe! He’s been talking to Tori about changing their rules on relationships anyway. Brody’s shocked at the change of tune and also wary. Brody wonders if Phoebe would really want to get involved with him knowing what she does? Justin isn’t sure, but at least she’d be going into it with her eyes open. All depends how much Phoebe likes him…

Still at Salt, Ash won’t leave until Kat talks to him, so with a push from Phoebe, Kat gives him 30 seconds. He apologises for last week, admitting he was spying on her date, then confesses it kills him to think of her with another guy. But Ash assures he’s working on it and won’t bother her anymore. If Kat is affected, she doesn’t show it and Ash has no choice but to leave. Kat continues working, having to deal with a rowdy customer who starts whistling at her. She firmly tells him to stop it, but he doesn’t listen. Later he rudely tries to convince her to have a drink with him. His drunk behaviour getting out of line, Phoebe tells him it’s time to leave, which prompts him to grab Phoebe’s butt. Phoebe then yells firmly for him to get out, which he ignores and now tries to grab Kat. Reacting with her training, Kat twists the guy’s arm behind him and shoves him down on the bench – then again, slamming him hard. The guy scurries out with a bloody nose and Phoebe & Kat are both left shocked as to just how strongly Kat reacted. Later as they close up, Phoebe thanks Kat for being here – might be good to have an ex-cop around. Just as they’re chatting about how Kat’s shift went, McCarthy strolls back in on police business. He informs Kat that the gentleman in here earlier has claimed Kat assaulted him. Phoebe tries to protest but McCarthy stops her – he has no choice but to place Kat under arrest.
