Extended Summary

Tori is distraught as the group struggle to find a way down the ridge to Brody’s seemingly lifeless body. Justin tries to calm Tori, as Duncan assists Nate to abseil down the cliff. Nate reaches Brody and immediately tries to wake him, as Tori is the next to repel down to help. Brody is responsive but in tremendous pain. Nate works to tourniquet his severely injured leg. Brody’s in trouble…

Matt sends Ellie to his room so he can discuss with Roo, whether or not to let her stay. He knows it’s not the best time to be dropping all of this on Roo, but he can’t send her away. Roo agrees to let Ellie stay, but first he has to call her legal guardian, Aunt May. Ellie barrels out to stop him contacting her. Ellie’s still hurt Matt left her for so long.
Matt calls their Auntie but puts off explaining the living situation over the phone. He’s feeling guilty that he left Ellie there for so long. Roo moves to reassure him, there’s no way that he could’ve given Ellie a better home life until now. Matt’s guilt persists, he knew his Auntie hated him, but he thought she liked Ellie. Nevertheless, ROO feels obliged to voice her concern, Ellie’s a thirteen-year-old kid, it’s going to be a lot to take on…

Evelyn find Alf ruminating on the situation at home. He’s taking a quick break before continuing the search for Duncan and the others. It’s clear he’s struggling. Evelyn moves to reassure Alf, he thinks it was nothing short of a miracle that Evelyn and the others walked away from the plane, luck must be running out for the others. Evelyn knows it wasn’t luck that saved her – it was Oscar.

Mason is at the Nurse’s Station, signing a discharge form – his mind on his missing siblings – when Evelyn arrives. She’s worried about him. He’s not ready to head home to an empty house alone. She offers to take him somewhere else, and keep him distracted. Mason later worries, what if he lost everyone… Evelyn tells him not to think like that. She lost everyone, and she’s still here. She tells Mason that Oscar is still looking after her

Nate and Tori work to save Brody, by stopping the bleeding and popping his knee back in place. He’s not in good shape. Justin talks his brother through it as they work to save him. They need to get him out of there if he’s going to make it at all. Duncan and Justin work to build a stretcher to get him to safety. Tori reels, desperately afraid for her brother’s life.

Matt meets confronts his Aunt May. She’s exasperated and annoyed by Ellie’s antics. Matt tells her that he wants Ellie to live with him. Aunt May is immediately defensive, reminding him she’s still Ellie’s legal guardian. Matt just wants what’s in Ellie’s best interests, which he believes, obviously isn’t living with Aunt May. The battle lines are drawn.

Brody is being carried on a makeshift stretcher. The group stop for a break and Tori works to keep her brother awake,. Reminding him of when he was a kid and he broke the same leg. He was so brave back then, working to reassure Tori the entire time. Brody manages to respond, calling her a wuss and the group presses on, urgent.

Despite Matt’s attempts to reassure her, Aunt May is proving difficult to convince. Her smug tone forces Matt’s s frustration to breaking point. He doesn’t understand why Aunt May is keeping Ellie around if she finds her so difficult, before realising that the only reason is the government money she receives to look after her. Matt gives Aunt May a chance to finally wash her hands of Ellie. She does so, but with a genuine warning – that girl is a nightmare. As Aunt May stalks off, Matt is thrilled to have won.

Tori, Duncan, Justin and Nate finally manage to get Brody to Justin’s car. Justin fires up the car… as they move Brody into the back. Nate takes a distraught Tori’s hand… squeezes it. Duncan notices this but doesn’t react, as he jumps in his seat. They drive out of there. But will it be enough to save Brody?

Evelyn explains the unique connection she’s always had to Oscar. When he died she thought she’d lost that, but after the plane explosion she felt it again. She’s certain that he’s watching over her, sharing that connection again. Mason tries to find a rational explanation – shock, dehydration, even hallucinations. Evelyn is certain that this is real. Mason receives a call – Tori and Brody are at the hospital.

Matt tells Ellie she’s here to stay. Incredibly thankful, Ellie runs to Matt and throws her arms around him. It’s time to celebrate. But once Matt leaves the room Ellie grows thoughtful. She spots Matt’s wallet on the table and has an idea. She sneaks over to the bench, and quietly takes some cash out of Matt’s wallet. She pockets it and heads out – could Aunt May’s warnings about Ellie be true?
Tori and Nate give the hospital staff all the info they can as they wheel Brody in. Tori wants to come into theatre, but Nate stops her. He’ll scrub in, he knows everything that’s happened. He can assist. She needs to wait outside. Mason arrives and reunites with Justin and Tori. Now they have to wait. Duncan stands back as the responsibility of this tragedy weighs on him. Alf and Roo rush in to find Duncan. He locks eyes with his father and sobers. There’s immense relief in Alf’s voice as the two men shake hands, closer than they’ve been in a long time.

Matt comes out of the shower to find his wallet missing cash, but before he has time to worry, Ellie arrives with groceries. She’s going to cook him a thank you dinner. Matt’s moved.

Tori watches on as Nate and the other Doctor’s work to stabilise Brody. He’s going into code blue. She walks into the room, but Nate forces her back out. She can’t help. Justin asks her what’s going on, and she reveals that Brody’s heart has stopped…
