Kat tells the stricken MacGuires that Denny is dead and assures them that she will catch the killer. Billie covers for Irene when she realises that she has been drunk-driving, and is later reunited with Ash.
Extended Summary
Having just found out that Denny’s dead, Phoebe runs to the surf club in tears. From the balcony Ash sees her expression and runs to her, realising his greatest fears that the body is Denny’s must be true. Ash can only take Phoebe in his arms, both rocked by grief. Meanwhile Kat has told the devastated MacGuires, the shock and horror hitting hard. Zac holds Evie as she cries, then a stunned Oscar goes to her as Zac tries to listen while Kat grimly assures him that she’ll catch the killer.
Charlotte has gone to ask Andy for money but he tells her not only does he not have the money, he wouldn’t help her if he could. Charlotte threatens Andy with her knowledge that he killed Jake Pirovic and that Josh helped cover it up. Andy’s left rattled as Charlotte leaves, confident that he’ll get her what she wants despite his bluster. Josh comes out of his bedroom to find Andy sitting quietly. After Josh asks what’s wrong Andy tells him, but as they try to work out what to do Andy gets a call from Phoebe. She breaks the awful news about Denny and Andy asks whether Hannah knows. Andy finds Hannah walking on the beach and as he tells her, Hannah falters, backing away then falling to the sand as Andy tries to hold and comfort her.
As Phoebe drives she stops to help someone who’s broken down, suddenly realising it’s Billie. As soon as Billie recognises Phoebe she runs away, into the bush. Phoebe calls Ash who has just told a stunned Kyle about Denny. Ash drives up to where Phoebe is waiting and rushes off on foot to look for Billie, with Phoebe following.
Olivia comes home to find Irene drunk and bitter. Olivia tries to take the vodka away but Irene grabs it and tells Olivia that she’s a self centred leech. Olivia tells Hunter about it and they decide to ask Alf for help. He’s deeply concerned and goes straight round to give Irene some tough love. Irene’s not pleased to see him and angry when Alf pours her vodka away. Once Alf’s gone Irene looks for more alcohol and when she doesn’t find it she gets in her car…
Charlotte is home alone. She’s day dreaming that Hunter and Zac come to her, wanting to be a family. Her reverie is broken by insistant knocking on the door. She gets up and quickly hides the gun and handcuffs which are sitting in front of her. She answers the door to Kat who tells her that she’s just told the MacGuires about Denny. She offers Charlotte the chance to come clean and end it all now but Charlotte keeps up a front, feigning sadness and anger.
Irene’s driving is erratic and as she comes around a corner where Billie is trying to hitch a ride she only sees her at the last minute and as she swerves to avoid hitting Billie, Irene spins the car. As she screeches to a halt Irene is in shock, and when Billie comes over to her she realises Irene’s drunk. Moments later Kat pulls up in her car and Billie quickly improvises a story, telling Kat that she was driving and she swerved to avoid a kangaroo. As Billie goes to leave Kat tells her to come back into town with her. Billie resists but Kat persuades her that it’s not fair to leave Ash wondering where she is. Kat calls Ash and he arrives, wrapping Billie up in a relieved hug.
Andy arrives to see the stricken MacGuires, guiding Josh to see Evie. Zac goes to tell Leah and Hannah goes to tell Chris. As Andy moves to help Oscar in the kitchen Evie’s eyes are still on Josh, who quietly tells her he’s sorry.
Charlotte overhears Ash and Billie talking about Billie staying with him and sneaks into Ash’s van. She hides Kat’s gun and handcuffs in Billie’s bag… Will Billie go down for this?
