John gives Marilyn a round-the-world ticket and they renew their vows. VJ and Olivia get caught having taken Leah’s car without permission. A drunk Kat makes a scene at the vow renewal, abusing Nate. Ricky and Nate are united after a difficult day.
Extended Summary
John rushes after Marilyn after she leaves him at the ‘altar’. She says she can’t lie, she doesn’t want to stay in Summer Bay when her heart says travel. John is hurt and walks away.
Ash finds Kat passed out on the sofa. He wakes her and as she stumbles towards the kitchen he questions again if this is how she wants to spend her life. She finds the empty vodka bottle and turns on Ash, accusing him of pouring it away. Ash denies it but Kat tells him to stop interfering and get out. As he leaves she grabs a bottle of wine.
Olivia drives VJ to the diner, saying he owes her a burger for driving him there. He’s on edge, worried that they’ll be discovered, having taken Leah’s car. As they sit in the diner VJ keeps looking around nervously. Olivia chatters away and as she does she lays a hand on VJ’s leg which completely distracts him, giving him hope that there may be something blossoming between them…
Running late for the vow renewal, Chris finds a downcast John sitting looking out over the ocean and asks what’s wrong. John tells him that Marilyn doesn’t want him, that she wants to travel. Chris tells him their marriage is great, and recounts a cute story to prove that Marilyn loves John. He’s not convinced but Chris persists, saying that John has to do something or he’ll lose Marilyn. John and Chris arrive to find Marilyn with Irene, Leah and Roo. The others leave, giving John and Marilyn some space. John produces a round the world plane ticket for Marilyn, telling her that he wants her to be happy. And that she should start packing because she leaves tonight! Marilyn says she’s not leaving until they renew their vows. The celebrant has already left but Marilyn has an idea… Alf can preside and save the day!
VJ and Olivia return to find a dent in Leah’s car. They grab paint from the bait shop to try and repair the damage but before they can make it any worse Alf catches them in the act. Leah tells VJ off while Irene lets Olivia know how much she messed up.
Kat leaves a drunken voicemail for Nate, telling him she’s sick of waiting for him to pick up his stuff. Meanwhile John springs his next surprise on Marilyn, with Phoebe performing a song for her, but soon it’s interrupted by Kat stumbling into the middle of things with Nate’s box of things, which she throws at his feet. As she starts to shout at him people try to calm her, saying it’s John and Marilyn’s day but she carries on, getting louder and more abusive. In the end Ash practically picks her up and drags her away, still shouting and crying. Ash and Phoebe see Kat off to Angelo’s and a calmer Kat soon regrets her actions, feeling terribly embarrassed. Later on Kat apologises to Ricky and Nate. Ricky thanks her and Nate tries to tell Kat he still cares for her but she accuses him of manipulating her and leaves. Nate talks to Ricky about it, who thinks they shouldn’t listen. Soon they’re kissing and things heat up.
Back home, as Kat pours the wine away she breaks down, heartbroken.
